Every time I snag my belt loop on my drawer pull I think of Nick.

“ you don’t have that many nice things” for open shelving 😅😂. Nick, I love your honestly and sense of humor!

Somebody make an edit of nick’s “how are you going to clean that?” from every episode, strung together.

Came for the decorating advice, stayed for the snark!

"It's not as cute as you think it is." I love it.

When talking to people about cabinets vs drawers, I ask them, "Do you want to go in after the stuff or do you want the stuff to come to you?"

Nick Lewis Quote of the Week: "No backsplash - what are you, a freakin' serial killer?" Gold medal performance, Nick! 😂😂😂

"You're not going to get a ladder in your kitchen like you're Gwenneth Paltrow" 😂

As someone trained in monument conservation, wanting marble for your countertops baffles me. It’s super soft so it scratches and chips easily and it’s super sensitive to all kinds of things. We’re talking vinegar, lemon juice, bleach… all of those can ruin marble. All those natural cleaners? Breaking down your marble. Marble is super super sensitive to acids and salts which are very common kitchens. An absolutely horrible choice. If you really want stone, choose granite. It comes in a ton of colors and patterns and is much more chemically stable. (Also, don’t get me started on soapstone. Whoever started that trend needs to be fired. The worst stone for high traffic anything. You can literally scratch it with your fingernail and carve it with a butter knife.)

Love the fast talking. Better than all the word salad on YouTube.

“You really don’t have that many nice things”. That really resonated with me. Love it! Tells it like it is.

“Until you’ve done a kitchen renovation you don’t know hell”. Truer words have never been spoken. NOT an exaggeration. Going on THREE months now with no sink, no stove, no oven. Cooking with a hotplate on a plastic folding table, and all of our stuff is stacked in cardboard boxes and gawd knows where is the epitome of patience testing.

IMHO, and as Nick so eloquently states, you can give your kitchen character and originality without "going nuts" on the fixed elements. A few pots of herbs, some original framed art, a cool lamp, decorative items collected during your travels, colourful antique glassware...there are many ways to make the kitchen a warm and personalized space without spending a ton of money on a reno.

I'm a kitchen designer. Because of that, I can't always convince my clients to do some of the things you recommend, Nick, no matter how many times I try. It's either a budget issue or their lifelong dream and I need to respect that without crushing their dreams. Some designers say that they refuse to put their "name" on unattractive remodeled kitchens, but the reality is that our clients will never erect a kitchen plaque with the designer's name on it, anyway; they will simply find other designers who will help them create their dream kitchen. But wall cabinets that don't go all the way to the ceiling, appliances without panels or a gigantic freestanding refrigerator, are typically either a style choice and/or a budget issue. The work triangle rule? It isn't always possible, if there's a limitation as to where the refrigerator and cooktop can be placed. I do like these kitchen videos, by the way, Nick.

Frankly, I like the speed with which you talk. You’re one of the few content creators with videos that I don’t have to increase the playback speed.

I have moved a few times and can always depend on one friend to come in and spot the flaws in one minute tops, and make Nick approved quips about them. I actually like that about her. In my latest kitchen it is a stacked stone cladding on the front of the island where the bar stools are. “Nice if you don’t care about your knees.”

That angled sink gives me rage that is completely unwarranted, but I freaking hate it with the fire of 1000 suns.

I had friends that were big time DIYers and did a great, high end job. They told me “only do one room at a time. We thought we were special and started several rooms at once. There is nowhere in our house that is not a mess. We were not special and you aren’t either.”
