Sure they fired a torpedo at the President. But chances are it was the Mark 14 so there was a 90-10 chance it wouldn’t have detonated anyway. But knowing this crew’s luck, it would’ve hit the ammo storage and tore the Iowa in half.
6:17 Fletcher has 5 main guns the fifth is in the middle right behind the aft quintuple torpedo tubes the second set of tubes should be between the two funnels unless they already refit to have more 40mm. The objects pointed out as "torpedoes are depth charge mortars K-guns and on the aft there will be roll off racks for depth charges. Hard to see in this picture but Willy D would also have an amount of 40mm bofors and 20mm.

Something I heard on The Dollop podcast that had an episode about the Willy D:
Before being sunk by a plane they had already shot down, the Willy D also shot up one of the ships it was supposed to be defending. The episode made it sound like they mistook the friendly ship for a kamikaze plane, but more likely a plane flew between the two ships and the gunner got tunnel vision.
What’s also funny is according to some reports he was actually MAD that they MISSED! “ How could they miss? It was a &@$&#%^ BATTLESHIP!” But ultimately, laughed it off ☺️🤣🤣
Just for everyone’s information, this will be a tactical information guide for what designation the torpedoes are, I am trying to help
Mark 14 torpedoes are for submarines
Mark 15 is surface surface ships
These two types are basically the same thing, just that the Navy designated them in different Marks to denote on which torpedo goes where and the Mark 15 is bigger, heavier, longer range and bigger explosive, but it’s the same equipment as the Mark 14
Fot he Fletcher class : it had 5 sinle mount 5inch gun turrets 2 at the bow and 3 stern (the third one is behind the superstructure you see behind the top rear gun/ the lower rear gun has deapth charges for anti sub use in front of it/ can you see the torpedo tube cylinders amid ships- behind them doing towards the stern is the mid 5 inch turret) torpedo launchers, deapth charges, and lots ot AA guns. PS. All guns are centerline mounted so they can traverse port and starboard to fire a 5 gun broadside. There are no port side guns...those you'd have on cruisers and battleships since their size is so great compared to a destroyer.
