Historically, the governments of India concentrated most of the budget for north in a few big cities while the south received a more uniform budget due to port connectivity and export hubs.
So you'll find that north Indian cities are heavily populated because people from other towns and cities go there to find work, and the cities were simply not built to accomodate that many people.

So the pro tip of exploring north India is to make a list of touristy places that aren't economic hubs. That includes northeastern India and the Himalayan states up north. Even the northwestern India with deserts is a good option, but it is extremely touristy because of it's historical places and forts. That means a lot of tourists who haven't done their research come there, and unaware tourists means it attracts scammers too.

So counter-intuitively, the tip to explore famous tourist spots like Delhi, Agra and Jaipur is to do a detailed research on travelling, accomodation and prices. For other locations, you don't have to worry that much.

Im from south but let me tell you there's more to north than just Delhi and Rajasthan, infact I wouldn't even recommend visiting these places
Instead go visit Himalayas, Kashmir, Ladakh, these are the places you must visit if you come to India

I left India about 40 years back for middle east, then UK and finally Canada. After death of my parents I haven't gone back for past 25 years. So watching this show was very nostalgic and I had no trouble identifying with everything you showed. I guess, its time for a re-visit before I get too old for that 15 hour flight.

you should've done a itinerary on keralam everything was a mess. For history Thiruvanathapuram,Thrissur and Ernakulam .for nature idukki (you barely visited munnar) and Alapuzha. food Kozhikode without a doubt. Culture? Oldest marital art Kalaripayattu ,Kathakali,Onam,Trissur pooram and many more.

Sister, South Indian sea food.. you should have tried it. States like Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, and Tamil Nadu feature rich maritime traditions with daily access to fresh catches like prawns, squid, mackerel, and seer fish (kingfish).

Kerala for nature,  clean and beauty,
Tamilnadu for history and culture.
Karnataka for beautiful historical places and maintaining the nature and palaces, wild life sanctuary etc, if you visit these three states, then you can analyse south Indian.  In whole India is land of unity in diversity.

I belong to Centre of India, on entrence on my city it says Welcome to Geographical Centre of India. Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha are also good places to visit, CG doesn't have much to offer except Nature and typical village/tribal life with some cool folk dances and artstyle for foreigner, unlike Historical monuments, beutiful Temples etc in other MH

Many foreigners have had very specific food in the name of Indian, what we call north Indian food. They have generally not had actual local food and might not know how to pair or eat it. And/or disappointed because of the expectation of what indian is supposed to be
