I can add a little post-service flourish to this one.  Many HA-200s hit the civilian market once they were retired.  We had one at the local airport and I chatted with the owner about it.  I saw him doing an engine test run and taxiing it around and just asked him about it.  He answered my questions between grunts and grumbles about it always being broken.  Basically he said his was a true maintenance hog by civilian standards.  Mind you these planes were over 30 years old by then and had been used hard.   I saw them in Trade-a-plane magazine for about $40,000 USD but some were as little as $10,000.  The owners seemed happy with the way they flew but fuel consumption, maintenance, parts and operating cost limited their flying hours.  There seemed to have the "expensive toy" cycle where the owner would get one, play with it for a while but when the maintenance realities hit they lost interest and the planes would languish at a local airport until they could sell it, part it out or just outright abandon it.  I saw one sad HA-200 that looked very rough at another local airport where it had become the local eyesore. I thought it might have been abandoned until someone told me they thought it was for sale for $8,000 but it looked like it needed more than its value to be airworthy again.  It was basically worthless.
At this time you could get a surplus Polish MiG 15 for the same money with a spare engine.  I have not seen a HA-200 here in the USA for some time but I know there are a few still around.  There is one in 'good' condition for sale in Rochester New York.  It is on Ebay $65,000 and a derelict for sale for with a current top bid less than $2,300,

Been waiting for this one ever since you said you were working on some Spanish jets! Thanks for covering this sometimes forgotten piece of Spanish aviation history. As a fun fact, I did my first internship with the Spanish Air Force in Sevilla, close to one of the Hispano Aviación Factories,  and in the oldest workshops at the airbase all the steel trusses in the structure had German markings!

WEIRD co-inky-dink!  The last thing I watched before today's outing was this video.
After 2.5 hours of driving, my son & I arrive at our destination: The Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum, in McMinville, OR (USA).
Among the aircraft outside in back:  one HA-200 Saeta!  I was able to identify it by sight (and was immediately validated by a display placard).  It doesn't get much better than this!

I had a small prepainted model (toy?) of this aircraft back in the 70's when I was a kid. I have always been a airplane fanatic  and love obscure aircraft but never found any info on this plane. I thought the twin jet engines in the nose was cool. When I saw the picture of the Saetta on the title card of this video I had to watch it.  Finally know something about this plane

When I studied aircraft maintenance in Vilanova i la Geltru around 2007, we had one in my school, I'm fortunate enought to have learned aircraft engineering with one of those.

Valiente is a great name for the pilot, considering it means Brave - which he had to be. And 'saeta' is a crossbow bolt, rather than an arrow, which would be 'flecha'

Economical COIN aircraft are so underrated.

At frame [16:36] the Saeta shares ramp space with a USAF F-4, tail code [WR] Whiskey Romeo. I thought that might be a US Marine Phantom, but VMF-312 gave those letters to HMLA-775  in 1958, and that's no helo.
