Prodigy said that Illmatic influenced them to make this album. Their first album was released before Illmatic but it flopped. When Nas blew up off Illmatic, they knew they needed to make better music and they got dropped from the label. Mobb ensured that when they came with new music that they wouldn’t get dropped again, so that’s why they went so hard on the next three albums.  It trips me out how Prodigy said that Havoc taught him how to rap with that Queensbridge style, he took off with it and Prodigy taught Havoc how to use the sampler and he took off with the production. These two brothas learned something from each other. It’s funny, when you listen to Prodigy’s audiobook he said that he didn’t want to go to the school of arts and design. Most of his friends from Hempstead and LeFrak weren’t going there and then he met Havoc and they got real close. Prodigy even turned down a deal because they wouldn’t sign him and Havoc. I swear Mobb Deep needs a movie or mini series like Wu. RIP Prodigy.

I was like 15, went to the record shop, picked this album blindly. Didn't know anything about this group. Thought they looked bad ass..

My life was never the same afterwards

No album is more New York than this one. I’m born and raised in queens grew up listening to Mobb deep so I lived through it all. Shook ones part 2 is a New York anthem. It’s everything grimy queens nyc was and is.

Prodigy was really the man he says he was in his lyrics. I saw him out in Hell’s Kitchen NYC late night after midnight, walking the streets all by himself. He was on the phone walking towards me and I approached for a big dap like I knew him, and he actually held the phone down and dapped me back and said thank you for the props. He was
ALL ALONE. Wearing heavy jewels. ALONE. AFTER MIDNIGHT. NYC STREETS. What other “gangsta rapper” really rolls like that?!?! Right around when he was with G Unit for a minute there before he decided to go against the industry and the system.

Q Tip did a great job as an executive producer and mentoring Havoc as a producer on this project. Give up the Goods, Temperature Rising and Drink away the pain those were produced by Q Tip

This is the album that solidified Havoc as a legitimate Hiphop producer along with Prodigy as one of the nicest lyrical MCs in the game. I listen to this album and regard it in my top 5 along with Wutang "36 Chambers" & Blackmoon "Enter da Stage"  (which in my honest opinion you should seriously consider reacting to cause it's a GEM 💎)

So many classics in this year (1995). Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx and GZA’s Liquid Swords, Smiff-N-Wessun’s Da Shining, AZ’s Doe Or Die, and Ol Dirty Bastard’s Return To The 36 Chambers are just some of the many 🔥 albums released in 95.

One of the greatest hip hop albums of all time.

This is easily one my favourite albums of all time! Literally not one skip. This album was the soundtrack of my teenage years

i'm 21, i also just heard this album for the first time a couple months back and it quickly became one of my favorite of all time, EASY top 3. rest in peace prodigy for real and great reactions bruh keep em coming

Havoc produced most of the tracks except for Give up the goods, Temperature's rising and Drink away the pain. Those were produced by Q-tip. He also helped doing the mixing on the album.

The beginning of the shook one's...the sound that sounds like a lil snare he got that from the stove when 1st turn the knob....recorded it and put it in the beginning of the song havoc was a genius

Thank you from a 44 year Old!!!! This album meant so much to me

This whole album is one bigazzz banga!!!!!  Just straight 🔥🔥🔥 from beginning to end - definitely of of the top 5 greatest albums in Hip Hop!!!!

93, 94, 95, and I'm gonna add 96 being that it was the year Fugees "The Score", OutKast "ATLiens", Jay Z "Reasonable Doubt", Tupac "All Eyes On Me", Nas "It Was Written", De La Soul "Stakes Is High", UGK "Ridin Dirty", Redman "Muddy Waters", The Roots "Illadelph Halflife", Ras Kass  "Soul On Ice" and A Tribe Called Quest "Beats Rhymes And Life" came out. It was a great era.

Can u imagine how it made us feel in the 90s. I was 15 when this dropped n this album was our mentality

Yup, “Temperatures Rising” is a true story about Havocs older brother Killa Black. He beat that murd3r case💯💯💯 Not a great ending to his story tho💔✊🏾 #RIPProdigy #RIPKillaBlack

Top 5 all time hip hop albums easy. I remember when my friend put me on to Mobb Deep in ‘95. Soon as I heard the album I went straight to the store and bought it. Been in regular rotation for nearly 30 years. Love that young’uns are still appreciating these projects. Great video!

One of the greatest hip-hop albums ever made. It’s darker than the Abyss. Loved your reactions. Such a shame Eye for an Eye wasn’t allowed as it is my favourite track on this masterpiece.
