Growing up with movies like this was awesome when we had 3 TV stations that went off air at 10:30 PM on weekdays 🤣

I saw this gem in 1963 when I was 7. Just saw it again at 69.

Arthur Franz, genuine WWII hero, was a navigator on a B24 bomber shot down, taken prisoner and eventually escaped his captors.

I had no idea submarines in the 1950s were so spacious.

Love that electro-sonic music! This one earned the honor of being in The Criterion Collection.

Yes! For me, The Atomic Submarine is one of my favorite Tom Conway movie of 1959.

Apparently the film was shot on a budget of $135,000 and took seven days of filming. Lots of miniatures and stock footage, but some of the Cyclops shots were good, as was the score. Always great to see and hear Tom Conway.

I love how they look up at the stars at the end. In the middle of the day 🤣

A lot of fun to watch this old sci fi movie. It's heart is in the right place, and the tiny budget, even by 1959 standards doesn't handicap the fun at all. Thanks for sharing it.

Even as a kid seeing it when it came out, I thought it was hokey as hell. But, it is definiely high on my list of "so bad it's good" films. In that sense, it's truly a classic.

I live in Maine one mile away from where admiral Perry’s ship Rosevelt was built. We used to play and fish around the remaining ship yard in the 1960s

Remember voyage to the bottom of the sea?

Made 66 years ago on a low budget, but it still holds up well as a spooky little drama about an evil alien and a brave American crew sent to destroy it on an atomic submarine, (the most advanced weapon of the day in 1959.) I first saw this movie some 63 years ago on the Friday late night Shock Theatre show of Ghoulardi on WJW-TV 8. Great memories.

¡ W0W ! This film which I had never heard of before, hits five the big UFO community themes. Underwater UFOs (USOs), telepathy, organic technology, alien human hybrids, and alien abduction. For 1959 this film is way ahead of its time.

I'm a nuke submariner, retired. One of my boats was the Sargo SSN 583. That would have been a typical boat at the time of this movie.
I understand this is fiction but damn. Just damn!
This is somewhat of a different experience than what I saw.

The eyeball was spot on though.

Popcorn fodder.....and we loved it backaways. I was courting my blind date at the time, munching popcorn, wide-eyed in the cinema back row........we celebrated our 65th wedding anniversary this year....not bad for two popcorn munchers!
