RAF Staplehurst is a former WW2 Royal Air Force Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) situated in central Kent, England. The airfield is located approximately 1 mile (1.6 km) northeast of Staplehurst, about 38 miles SE of London.

Built during 1943 as an Advanced Landing Ground (ALG) for Operation Overlord (Normandy invasion), Staplehurst was used briefly by RAF fighter squadrons during August to October 1943 and then allocated to the US Ninth Air Force.

An absolutely riveting documentary that kept me glued to my screen throughout.
Amazing information with loads of surprises for me despite being so interested in history and having watched hundreds of documentaries!
Brilliantly put together and the soundtrack gave the documentary an eerie edge with definitive, emotional overtones, captivating and poignant.
Bravo Sir......Bravo!

I will be 86 on 10th feb 2026 and born at Blackheath, near Greenwich Park 5 months after the war started. I have a vivid recollection of seeing two V1's (doodlebugs) when travelling in a bus across the heath late in 1944. The conductor stopped the bus and told everyone to get under the seats because two V1's had been sighted travelling nearby. I decided to look out of the window just as the leading bomb 's went silent. It fell opposite the bus about 400m away and exploded, rocking the bus and showering the side with dirt and stones. The second V1 carried on and from what I know may have fallen on Greenwich hospital. A soldier emerged from under a seat and asked me what I was doing. I said "I am watching the bomb". He then gave me sixpence for being a brave boy. My father was a policeman and his war was being called out out to bombed sites. I am sure he saw more dreadful sights than many soldiers, plus the danger of injury from collapsing masonry. With two sisters we were a very lucky family to come through the war unscathed, apart from the mental aspect, particularly mum.

Dresden's fate was sealed by it's geographical position. Napoleon fought there, Frederick the Great fought there and I'm fairly sure you could go back thru time and find more battles fought there in the last 2000 years!

It's an interesting hypothetical question whether the V rocket campaign could have forced Britain to surrender or offer to sue for an armistice - because at this time, of course, the Russian army was already advancing on Germany - and once they had reached Berlin, presumably they could then have halted the rocket programme anyway - even if the Allies hadn't yet managed to reach the launch sites?

How did the American bombers get to Britain? could they fly all the way across the Atlantic?

The definitive account of the Nazi's Vergeltungswaffe terror campaign; "V for Vengeance" draws the viewer into its time and landscapes at the side of Philip Day whose writing is exemplary for documentary producers of any era. Bravo, and thank you!

I'm now 65, and my mother and father lived through the Blitz, my father was out in Germany in 1946, his uncles, my Great Uncles, they were twins, both in SAME REGIMENT, and survived, were both at Dunkirk, and D-DAY, I used to talk to them, and after they witnessed the execution of our POW 's, at Dunkirk, they swore vengeance, and when going back on D-Day, they NEVER EVER TOOK A GERMAN PRISONER, no matter what the circumstance, and were Proud to say it, at the Ex-Serviceman's Club, where I spent a lot of my childhood, talking to the War Vet's, as always loved history, and studied it most of my 65 years, I can understand why they did it, as I know, if I had been in there shoe's, I'd have done the same.

I got Type 1 diabetes aged 9, in 1968, so could'nt get in Armed service's, But my Daughter did 16 years in army, came out about 4 years ago, same as her Husband, she did 4 Tours out in AFGHAN., as in Royal Signals, very HI-TECH high up, doing sneaky beaky stuff, in and OUTSIDE the WIRE( KANDAHAR AIR BASE ), AND WITNESSED AND INVOLVED with things, that effected her, as did her Husband, they are both out( THANK GOD, with whats going off, in our Country of UK ), and have 2 children.
My Grandfather( mums side ) was gassed in WW1, it killed him years later.

I now see what has happen'd to MY COUNTRY, and have to ask the question WHAT FOR????
As the Traitors who run our Country, have given it away to M. EASTERN DESPOTIC REGIMES, the EU/WEF( GERMANY, BIG H. would be proud of them, and the treacherous as usual FRENCH, who are the poodle of GERMANY) and the CHINESE CCP!!!!!!!
