Penguinz0 watches another great video by Summoning Salt titled 'The History of Lego Star Wars World Records'

The LEGO Star Wars games began with "LEGO Star Wars: The Video Game" in 2005, quickly attracting a casual player base because of their charming recreation of the Star Wars universe using LEGO. As the games gained popularity, a small but dedicated community began to form around speedrunning these games, initially focusing on basic route planning and learning the mechanics deeply.

Exploiting Glitches: As is common in speedrunning, players discovered various glitches and exploits in the LEGO Star Wars games that could be used to skip parts of levels or speed up progression. These discoveries often led to significant drops in world record times and opened new possibilities for route optimization. Segmentation of Runs: Over time, the community established different speed-runs categories, including individual levels, full game runs, and 100% completion runs. Each category requires a different set of strategies and can vary significantly in length. For example, 100% completion runs involve completing each level and collecting all mini-kits, red bricks, and achieving True Jedi status on every level.

Tool-Assisted Speedruns (TAS): Some runners began using tools to create theoretically perfect runs. These tool-assisted speedruns help understand the full potential of speed strategies and, in some cases, find new glitches or faster paths that human runners could then attempt to replicate in real time.

Growth and Community: Platforms like Twitch and YouTube have played a significant role in growing the LEGO Star Wars speedrunning community. Runners stream attempts, share strategies, and collaborate on discovering new techniques. This has helped lower entry barriers for new runners and fostered a supportive community.

Record Keeping and Events: Websites like Speedrun.com serve as hubs for the community, where runners submit their records, share strategies, and keep track of progress across different games and categories. Additionally, speedrunning charity events like Games Done Quick have showcased LEGO Star Wars games, raising awareness and funds for various causes while demonstrating high-level gameplay.
