"A hook is a sentence that creates one or more questions in the mind of the viewer, which they cannot answer." That's what a hook is. When the viewer can't answer the questions you've created with your hook, they'll force themselves to watch your content.

Step 1 formula : in first line , be super clear what the video is about. Topic clarity OR
Get you “leaning in” reference a pain point they might have, establish a common ground , or say something so interesting it blows their mind.
Step 2: scroll stop interjection, do this by using a contrasting word; “but however , yet although, on the other hand”
Step 3 the punch line, haymaker, contrarian SnapBack : it goes in the opposite direction of the initial lean, the bigger the shock the better the effect .

Most important note: visual hook: people read and see and react so much more. Put bold text of 3 to 5 words
The visual itself should be the most compelling visual possible.

Building common grounds: people like hearing things they’re already interested in.

“If you want better sleep you need to take magnesium “ their want to stop the pain is big.

Cult hopping - when people hear something they’ve heard before it unlocks a comfort subconsciously. When making videos about complex or niche topics you need to somehow find a way to wrap the unknown ideas and make it with something that is known

Simplified Version
Step 1 formula:
In the first line of your video, you gotta make it crystal clear what you're talking about —
OR —
say something that makes people lean in like "yo wait what??".
You can do that by:
Calling out a problem they have (“Ever tried making a Roblox horror game and it just flopped?”)
Showing you get them (“I know building games at 14 feels impossible sometimes.”)
Or dropping something so crazy it slaps them awake (“You’re losing 80% of players in the first 5 seconds and don’t even know it.”)

Step 2 formula:
After your first line, you need a "scroll-stopper" —
something that kinda twists what you just said so people’s brain goes 🛑 HOLD UP WHAT??
You do that by throwing in a contrasting word like:
but
however
yet
although
on the other hand
These words make people feel like "wait there's MORE to this story" and it forces them to keep watching.
Example: "Most people think you need crazy coding skills to make a good Roblox game...
But that’s actually not true at all."

Step 3
You need to say something opposite from what you just said.
The bigger the shock, the better.
Make them go "WAIT WHAT?!"

At the same time:
Put BIG BOLD TEXT (3–5 words)
Because: People see faster than they hear. If it looks Good, they stay.

I kid you not, I watched this video 2 nights ago, and applied it to one of my scripts. The video has hit almost 300k on Instagram in 3 days, and will probably go on to be my best video thus far. And this is the first video I've watched from you lol preciate it brother

Jokes on you. The hook isn't what made me commit to watching, the reciprocity debt I owe you means I'll drop everything I'm doing and watch when I see a new upload from you. 😂

Curiosity hook:
1. Context + Lean: establish common ground, reference a benefit or pain point, simplify a complex idea, tell them sthg that blows their mind.
2. Scroll stop intervention: contrast word like but however yet altho on the other hand —- before introducing the haymaker —- “but the screen is the least impressive things” creates curiosity loop
3. Contrarian snapback - “the most impressive part is the audio and it gna blow your mind” — viewer now wants to learn why the audio is better than the screen.

Eg he did this.
1. Today we talking abt hooks. If u want video to do better, u gta make better hooks. (Context) hooks will help u build leads (benefit to lean in)
2. But i not gna give you 25 best proven hooks — and viewer knows this is not the answer. So viewer wanna wait to see what works better — viewer has stopped and waited.
3. Contrarian snapback: what you need is “u need to understand the psychology of how the hooks work — viewer is waiting for what is deeper than the conventional wisdom.

If you wanna achieve x, don’t do y, do z. And if you wanna achieve x, u will listen.

Next is visual hooks. 3-5 big words on screen to build context lean.

So: text on screen -> motion -> spoken word is better than just spoken word

———-

People like hearing things they r interested in. They are also open to hearing new perspective if new pers will u lock a benefit or pain point Solution.

Find a way to wrap unknown in the known. If talk about complex tax planning, mention how taylor swift FA plan how to expense her eras tour to save on taxes.
——-
Compress speed to value - esp short form 4 secs — demonstrate initial value - front load initial
Hit of value after the hook. First hit needs to be super valuable and they will await the second hit of value. Best if can implant the value IN THE HOOK

———
Staccato the hook. Short sentence.

Took me 2 hours to watch a 17 minute video... I love learning and this is PACKED with gold nuggets.  Thank you! Cannot wait to see sandcastle

Your video editor needs a raise fr fr

The part where he took us as the viewers back to the beginning 6:50 to show that he was using the tips in this exact video is fire bro!

If I could buy stock in individual Youtubers, you would be at the top of my list

Some people would sell this information as a $200 course, and you just give it away for free. Wow. Thanks a lot, you got a new subscriber!

15:08 he just cult hopped me!! I’m a musician and his use of *staccato made me lean in even more and feel more connected!😮

I've watched several videos by different people on how to nail the hook, and this is one of the best ones I've come across! Thank you for making this content!

What do you think of this? I’m going to try it out regarding an affordable content camera

1. Context Lean (Tease the Desire):
“You’re tired of cameras that overpromise but overwhelm—what if you didn’t need a big setup to create pro-level content?”

2. Scroll Stop Interjection (Unexpected Shift):
“Forget DSLRs and pricey mirrorless rigs for a second.  The best content creators don’t always use them.”

3. Contrarian Snapback (Challenge the Norm):
“The Sony ZV-1F flips that whole narrative—lightweight, affordable, and designed for creators who want results, not a gear headache.”

Or

1. Context Lean (Tease the Problem):
“Everyone says you need a heavy, expensive camera to make great content, right?”

2. Scroll Stop Interjection (Break the Flow):
“But what if I told you they’re wrong?”

3. Contrarian Snapback (Flip the Script):
“The Sony ZV-1F proves you don’t need all that. Small, simple, and powerful—it’s all you need to level up your videos.”

I’m from Germany and barely comment in vids. Always when I think “that was a banger video” the next video is also a banger. The value and explanation is crazy

This is hands down the best content creation tutorial I've ever watched. You are extremely underrated and should have at least 10 times the subscriber count. Well, now you have one more subscriber to get you closer to that. Thank you sir for helping us out with a no-bs guide to better hooks!

These quick tips fixed my Reels game instantly.

Hooks -  topic clarity- establish common ground or referenece a pain point or benefit or use a metaphor to simplify concept  or share something mindblowing - stun gun ( contrasting words however, yet, but

At the part you did the highway analogy i started scrolling through the other suggested videos and realized by 3:00 in I didnt hear a single word after. Had to go back and rewatch. Youtube is melting my brain. Social media is tough dudes literally writing the book on hooks and i still got distracted....
