[Video Summary] May 1560, Battle of Okehazama.
Imagawa Yoshimoto, the greatest archer in the Tokaido region, was killed by a mere 2,000-strong Oda army.
On that day, the story of the victor, Oda Nobunaga (27 years old), and Matsudaira Motoyasu (19 years old), who was released from hostage status, quietly begins.
From the day after the Battle of Okehazama, Nobunaga simultaneously advanced his efforts to secure control of the east (encroachment on Mikawa), the north (laying the groundwork for Mino), and Owari.
Meanwhile, Motoyasu did not enter Okazaki Castle on his own, but sought permission from Imagawa Ujizane in Sunpu.
"This would go against the wishes of the late Lord Yoshimoto."
It was a way of upholding his great debt of gratitude.
However, Ujizane was preoccupied with the situation in the Kanto region and unable to act, and the local lords of eastern Mikawa began to defect from the Imagawa.
Would he choose his debt of gratitude to Yoshimoto, or his exhausted retainers?
After much internal conflict, Motoyasu made his decision:
"I will make peace with Oda."
And the two men became intertwined.
Motoyasu headed for the unification of West Mikawa, and Nobunaga for Mino.
But one piece of the puzzle remained:
Motoyasu's eldest son, Takechiyo, held hostage in Sunpu.
In February of Eiroku 5 (1562), Motoyasu launched a night attack on Kaminogo.
Yoshimoto's brother-in-law, Udono Nagateru, committed suicide, but Motoyasu succeeded in protecting his son.
Takechiyo returned to Okazaki in a hostage exchange, and 1 year and 8 months after Okehazama, the Matsudaira family was finally united.
