We used to use a small piece of 2 X 4 wood and a Hammer. And cover it with a rag in between the seal and the wood. Then hit it with a hammer. It will sit flush with the case.I don't remember having to recess the seal.Brings back memories from back in the day in So-Cal .Thanks for taking the time to post.

Thanks a ton! This series of videos helped me visualize everything that the books talk about.

Cool thanks for your educational video there very helpful for me being a hobbyist

nice work

GREAT JOB.

Great video

Very good

I been doing VW aircool for some 45 years. Still after all those years everytime I build an engine.
I enjoy it like it was my first time rebuild a VW engine. Sealer is good on every signal oil leak point. Must use the correct sealer and the correct way.  One more thing you didn't line up the flywheel correct for better balance as well  as clutch assembly sometimes it makes a big difference.

No entendí nada, pero gracias por tus enseñanzas

THANKS, for good video ,EXCELLENT  THANKS

Nobody ever mentions that the teeth on the flywheel are machined in as opposed to being a shrunken on starter ring-gear, the flywheel being of hi-quality stee!l

Hello Mike, which is the diameter of the washer that you used to install the oil sealer of flywheel? Thank you!

Hi Drag racing I love your video, but can I add 2 cents to this video " be careful " adding gasket sealer to the flywheel seal. as you know their is an OIL galley hole just behind the flywheel shims to alow oil to lubricate the shims. and you don't want to take the chance of pushing sealer in to that hole when you drive home the flywheel seal. I hope that helps  any one new to building VW motors

Makes me wonder how an experienced VW engine builder makes a mistake like that on the oil pressure relief piston.

Please help, Rebuild 1600 engine. Having problems with oil cooling. I have one split. Replace it and the 2nd one split . It splits on the 2nd day I start the engine. What could the problem be?

I’m trying to freshen up my 1966cc engine. I recently broke and developed cracks in my cylinder heads and decided to split the case and freshen the bearings , mains, rod and cam. The engine has 92 pistons/cylinders, Rev True Stroker Crank with small block Chevy rods, Racer Brown cam and 1.4 AutoCraft rockers.  Mike my concern is the end play which is excessive .085 no shims no seal. The engine has performed flawlessly since it was built by me since mid seventies and always seem to have a lot of play. Prior to damaging the guide bosses the engine never made any noise, my hearing has deteriorated over the years, but I heard nothing abnormal. I was thinking today that this is a 12 volt eng and I run a 6 volt flywheel , it  is the eng in my 57 Oval. I’m at whits end and any advise would be greatly appreciated Look forward to hearing from you Thanx Richard

QUESTION PLEASE i just damaged a case by removing the fly wheel and reinstalling it without ! seting the end play !  i did not know you had to do that everytime you remove the flywheel ,,,,,,my question is WHY NOT USE THE GROOVED PISTON ON A dual relief case ?  and if you do will it cause some change in the oil pressure ? or what ? ,,,,,monday octorber 2020 ,,,,,thank you in advance
