The Quiet Man is my dad's favourite movie, and it's a bit of a family classic we watch a few times a year... We're taking a trip to Ireland this fall, and maybe if we have time in Dublin, I'll mention this to my dad and we can stop by to pay our respects. Thanks for showing this.

These were a pair of talented brothers
Ireland produced a lot of talent back in the day. The movies they appeared in would not be half as rich without them. R.I.P. Arthur Shields and Barry Fitzgerald.

Nice video Paul thanks for braving the rain here in Ireland 🙏 rip to the two brothers

Hi Paul, I’m from Delano California - a small city between Los Angeles and Fresno in central California. I met Arthur shields through his daughter christine at their then home in Santa barbara. He showed us all his Oscar’s and shared a few stories of his past times. His daughter was a strong supporter of Cesar Chavez and the grape boycott. I’m glad I had the opportunity to meet him and many other movie stars!  I will always remember him as I watch some of his movies from time to time — especially National Velvet! My daughter will also have great memories of him as he held her in his arms when she was just months old! The shields family- great hostesses, great memories!  Great video btw!  God bless you!
From Peggy S. Moreno. An old family friend.

Thank you Paul glad you got home safe

I haven't heard of either of these two but thank you for "flagging them up"

How could this video not mention Jules Dassin's superb 1948 film NAKED CITY in which Barry Fitzgerald plays the leading role? A must-see for all Barry Fitzgerald fans.

Nice work, never knew they were brothers.

Very nice video.  I'm glad you clarified this for me,  seeing Arthur I'd think he looks so much like Barry Fitzgerald Thanks so much!! God rest their souls...My last name is Shields, my daughter looked into the heritage and my great-grandfather John Shields was from Ireland and I've been told my  name isn't Irish.  My Mother was a

Lovely video and information about the two great actors

Thank you Paul. How Green is my Valley is one of my favourite films, but I never associate or focused on those two, or that they were brothers. Thank you so very much, I'll pay more attention next time this film is shown. Thanks for the film history of these gifted brothers. Was anyone of them married? or did I miss that?  Very much appreciated Paul, thanks again.

lovely video,2 great actors

Another nice video, Paul. Many of the previous two generations of my family are buried in Deansgrange. Actually, you were very close to the graves of my great grandparents on my father's side at the beginning of the video. They are not far from the main gate.

Beautiful Sincere 18/7/23

Arthur Shields fought in The 1916 Easter Rising against the British in Ireland...he fought his way out of the GPO into 16 Moore Street...Patrick Pearse gave him and his comrades orders to lead a charge up Moore Street to attack the British but Pearse called it off and surrendered ...Shields was then sent to prison in Frongoch Wales
