I just figured it out, while watching this speed run, that Harmony of Dissonance used a lot of graphics (backgrounds of stages mostly) from Dracula X. That's why palettes of these two games are a bit similar.
Oh god Dracula X... The most insane naming situation in the whole franchise, maybe whole gaming industry...
Castlevania: Rondo of Blood...
Originally came out in Japan as Akumajō Dracula X: Chi no Rondo which then got localised in the West as Castlevania: Rondo of Blood. Which then got a SNES remake called Castlevania: Dracula X.
Right so went from Dracula X to Rondo to Dracula X...... Got it... But wait!
THAT got another 2.5D remake called Castlevania: Dracula X Chronicles BUT WAIT!!!
Castlevania: Dracula X, the SNES version was known in Europe as Castlevania: Vampire's Kiss and get this... In Japan as Akumajō Dorakyura Daburu Ekkusu, which translates to..... DRACULA XX!
So it went Dracula X -> Rondo of Blood -> Dracula X -> Dracula XX
LOL. Spotted an AVGN segment of this game with the Dracula battle complain at the start, is true that 1 hit can most likely end an attempt on said battle, but it depends on where you are when you take a hit AND if you're not crouching to negate the knockback, but now on the topic of the run... I hope you end up later (while not a speed run) showing the alternative Stages 4 (probably if you want to put the boss as a bonus is OK), 5 and Death match at stage 6 which is only possible in the "True ending" route, but man, you nailed it, as some encounters can be a pain to deal with.
Always really liked this game, more than CV4 even I credit that largely to how as a kid, the video store near me had this game instead haha. I wouldn't know about Rondo period until like 10+ years later anyway
I never thought the game was particularly hard. That seems imo to stem from folks not having the patience for it, i.e. willing to play footsies with the spear knights and willing to wait during Dracula lol. One particularly unique thing I noticed about the game that makes it easier too - you can actually backtrack during stages to re-acquire meat you already picked up.
And yeah I'd expect a Rondo no-hit might actually be tougher.
Wow, I played through this game on the Advance Collection and doing a damageless run of it is one of the last things I would ever consider doing😂 This game was brutally tough, so this is beyond impressive👏👏
