Jupe was traumatized by what happened with Gordy, it's just that instead of developing PTSD symptoms, he developed a different kind of complex. The fact that Gordy approached him peacefully after attacking everyone else led him to believe he had some kind of special rapport with animals. Hence the tourist attraction, and hence the way he treats the UFO, like a big spectacle that he can control. Unfortunately, the brilliant twist in this brilliant movie is that the UFO doesn't contain creatures, it IS the creature. Specifically, a predator. Jupe's fatal flaw, his hubris regarding dangerous creatures, leads to his own destruction as well as that of his entire family and everyone at the live show. And it's just like you said: the Haywood siblings are able to get their "Oprah moment" and even kill the creature because they understand and respect its rules. Nope is my favorite Jordan Peele film so far. Loved the reaction!

The “Akira slide” in this is so fucking cool and well done.

This feels like one of the most realistic depictions of an alien. Usually they're shown as anthropomorphic, but there's no good reason for them to be.

U gotta watch Us to complete your Jordan Peele journey!

I had mixed thoughts based on the trailers going into Nope, but it turned out to be one of my favourite films in recent years and is the one film that truly felt like a summer blockbuster when compared to Jaws. Five stars Jordan Peele. Five stars.

One of those movies that gets better when you watch it multiple times.

Admirable for its originality and ambition even when its reach exceeds its grasp, Nope adds Spielbergian spectacle to Jordan Peele's growing arsenal.

“Spectacle” and a “bad miracle” are concepts that are thematically linked to this film. The obsession with capturing a spectacle, even at risk to your own sanity or physical being is the heart of the film. And even though it’s not as in your face as Get Out, the idea of people of color in that industry being apart of “spectacle,” but not in the line light is apart of the text of the film (think the black jockey). How much of our bodies, or our humanity are we willing to sacrifice to be seen and given our due. At least that’s what I took from it. And it’s very fun and beautifully shot too.

I liked the twist when you realise that the UFO isn't a spaceship containing aliens but an alien itself which could alter its shape.

The scene where the people at the fair were being sucked into the UFO really gave me chills, but I got sick to my stomach when the people were being digested in the UFO

2006 is a very specific prediction lmao

Yeah, as others have pointed out, the cinematographer was dying. Probably something slow and painful like cancer. That's why he decided to die in an attempt to get the "impossible" shot. He chose to go out on his own terms and hopefully create a lasting legacy.

As for the falling objects that killed O.J's father, I believe (been a while since I saw this, so not 100% certain) there was audio of a news report in the beginning about a missing tour group. That's why you hear screaming just before the rain of junk. Guessing one of the tourists looked up and doomed them all.

Another nice video Mary. Keep it up.

24:11 It slept while in the sky for 6 months. Thanks for raising the terrified meter😭

"It will spit the camera out, but it will break..."

Hand crank cameras usually feed directly into a light-tight canister. So long as it doesn't rupture on landing (or passing through Jean Jacket😅) the film should be salvageable.

"Oh! Wow! She got moves!"

To understand the homage Jordan is paying with the sideways bike slide - Akira, an anime classic
It still echoes through cinema to this year 😏

3:31 fun fact: one of the crew members is played by Oosgood Perkins who would later go on to direct Longlegs and the monkey

Regarding the director Antlers Holst: When Emerald mentioned getting the shot of a lifetime he said “hopefully not in my lifetime” and we see him taking meds. I don’t think he had much time left to live but despite already capturing the shot of a lifetime that day he deemed the magic golden hour shot more worthy, even if he died. 🤦🏽‍♂️
