Nuka Cola is an essential part of the Fallout series, but there are a lot more drinks than just Nuka Cola and this series will examine them all, starting with the soft drinks of Fallout.

I imagine victory was a limited edition nuka to celebrate like the liberation of anchorage or something. I also imagine nuka cola classic is the original passion fruit recipe.
The character named Evan that gives you the Nuka-Love recipe is based off a real person named Evan who died of cancer while waiting for Nuka-World. When Bethesda heard this story they added him into the game!
A note about the Sunset Sarsaparilla study and side-effects - Festus does note that these side-effects would only appear if someone would drink an ungodly amount of it in an extremely short amount of time. I took this to mean that after Nuka-Cola tried and failed to buy them out, they tried smeering them by ordering a study on the drink for possible side-effects and the results showed that unless you guzzled something like an entire vat of the stuff in under a minute, there isn't any serious problems with drinking it, but they still went "Aha! See? There are possible side effects!" even if it was extremely circumstantial, and thus caught Sunset Sarsaparilla on a technicality, even if it wasn't the gotcha that Nuka-Cola was hoping for. So they were able to force Sunset Sarsaparilla to disclose the fact that there are side-effects to drinking it, on a technicality, even if the circumstances are ludicrous. It would be like ordering a study on bottled water and keeping the study on going until they found something that it finally took them drinking 22 Litres of water under 5 minutes to finally say that there can be health problems, at which point a normal person would say "No sh!t Sherlock - you just drank 22 Litres of water under 5 minutes. Of course that would be unhealthy!" but a corporation like Nuka-Cola would bank on it since that was literally all the dirt they could manage to dig up and proceed to use it as a technicality to say 'drinking bottled water can cause health issues' even if the circumstances were extreme.
"nuka cooler" is almost certainly supposed to be a reference to the not long for this world koolaid flavor "ecto cooler" that was supposed to be a tie in with ghost busters
Minor Correction, Quantum was released the DAY the bombs fell. Stores and machines were stocked ahead of time, but only a VERY small amount of people had tasted them.
They were only in select marjetd, which is why they are rare.
Here's a theory - the mixing stations probably removes most of the liquid from the drinks, combines them, then adds an appropriate amount of liquid back into the mixture. That's why combining 2+ drinks only ends up resulting in one bottles worth. This could be done without boiling it (i.e. vacuum dessication) so as not to degrade the other ingredients.
The canonical reason Fallout 4's Nuka Cola bottle version is different is due "to legal pressure" from an unnamed company. So yes, Coca Cola existed in the Fallout universe.
Also, the reason Quartz does not show up in the Capital Wasteland is because it was a west coast exclusive and is only at Nuka World because marketing by Nuka Cola.
Nuka-Free is likely a reference to Pepsi Free, which was the brand name that Pepsi sold it's Caffeine-Free variant of Pepsi in the early 80s, famously referenced in Back to the Future ("If you want a Pepsi kid you've gotta pay for it!").
The fact that it's combined with dirty water is probably a joke about how in order to lessen the effects of caffeine the soda is simply being watered down.
In Ireland we distinctly call them "soft drinks", or alternatively, "minerals". If you ever visit and someone asks "d'you want a mineral there?", you're being asked if you want a pepsi or something.
If I'm not mistaken with the lore, Nuka Cola was sued because its bottle design bore an uncanny resemblance to another soda at the time. This was probably Coke but not mentioned specifically. Nuka Cola then changed their bottle design to the more familiar rocket shape.
At 4:21 in the video, you said "hypoglycemic" which would be a lack of sugar. You probably meant "hyperglycemic" which is the overabundance of sugar. Just a small correction, otherwise great vid, I love your content :)
bit of trivia, but at on the day of fallout 4's release, Target repackaged some bottles of Jones Blueberry lemonade to be nuka cola quantum. as such, it's one of the few flavours you can theoretically actually go out and buy.
