This is just another sign of what people have been saying for years now, Mielle is changing to be for curly hair instead of coily hair. Because that image is true about type 3 hair, it looks like an afro when dry and gets defined curls when moisturized. There have been issues with Mielle and type 4 hair (that I remember, I’m sure there were more) since their products became popular with white women after Alix Earle recommended them and since they were bought out by P&G. Very sad to see such a good brand go out like this, but it isn’t the first and probably won’t be the last

How dare they call her beauty afro weak and dull. Im truly disgusted. I never purchased their products and now I will encourage anyone I know not to purchase their products.

Stopped using Mielle after she had her husband harass a YouTuber! He got her contact info from an order she placed, and he was threatening her! Then the owner posted a video talking the devil is trying to ruin her business? Never understood why people would still support her brand.

This campaign was probably encouraged by those "this is what healthy 4c hair looks like" or "thought I had 4c hair but it was just dry" videos. The ones where the person in the video clearly has type 4a

This is exactly why, mielle has the reputation that they do. There is nothing weak about a damn afro! It's actually a very full looking style. Mielle acting like they don't understand, is so manipulative & trifling 🙄. They know there's a lot of talk about texturism right now. The makeup artist, just needs to hush, she obviously ain't the brightest in the room. This is why I look up a brand before i support it, especially black brands because some of them are very anti-black & self-hating—or they sell out & now non-black folk tryna keep it on the hush 🙄🤦🏾‍♀️.

My hair looks very similar the model. When my hair is not defined/brushed out it’s soft and fluffy. And when i layer my products and use a defining brush, it looks like the model’s defined hair. Either way, my hair is still strong and healthy, it’s just one look has curl clumping and the other does not.

I also feel like brands pick out or brush out curly hair to make the “before” or starting point ambiguous to be more misleading customers. Even the girls on the Just For Me perm boxes didn’t even use the product, they were given silk presses. They utilize texturism as their sales driver.

In this pic, one side has product and the other doesn't. It's not dull. I'm about sick and tired of natural hair products. Just give me some regular azz shampoo and conditioner and leave me be.

but seriously, laughs aside, this post is just sad. unfortunately this is not the only natural hair company that has done this ): seeing images/ads like this as young black girls, it's no wonder so many women have such a complicated, damaged relationship with their hair 😢 my heart breaks for us. just take a few seconds to think of all the natural hair tutorials on youtube/social media that shows "unfinished" stretched hair on one side and "defined" curls that are supposed to be a 'completed' look😢 this kind of mental programming will take years for the community to heal from

and the makeup lady response gave me a genuine laugh. she could've stayed out of the situation, but she still chose to insert herself into the plot 🥲 just because one alleged 4c person has no issue with this marketing, doesn't mean it's not harmful

As an alopecia sufferer I would love to be able to grow that gorgeous Afro.
