Love this really inspiring to get out and catch some crayfish. The original video you did on explaining it was so helpful as well! 👍

We have hundreds of them in our large pond in France.  I catch them in baited traps, purge them and dispatch them by pulling their central tail flap out which also pulls out their trails.  In Somerset years ago I used to collect them in a stream when they were hiding under rocks during moulting. On the BBQ they were great tasting whole - just like soft shell crabs.

Love videos like these Carl. I definitely need to go trapping and fishing more often; such a great resource. Near us on the eastern coast of Maryland we have an abundance of Blue Crab. Delicious cooked in vinegar and beer!

Thank you my man!! Interesting.. cant wait to get some crayfish on the bbq!

Man you would go crazey here in Oregon or Idaho going after them . Well then their is watching Robbie fishing down under that will get you going .lol have a great time.

These crayfish feed primarily at night, so traps should be left overnight for best results. The best baits are also fish based, a cheap tin from a supermarket, with the lid partly opened is ideal.

Me and my daughter just caught 26 in 30 mins with string and bacon . Wen they grab the bacon u can lift them out into a bucket.  Good fun ❤

Walnut tree my favourite as well, found a sprouting walnut that a squirrel had buried in my garden. Planted it and when  it got big enough to produce walnuts the squirrels came back and stripped the tree of them all 😂

im up in the north, and the ea generally doesnt allow trapping in our rivers as theres some natives and also trapping benefits crayfish populations by removing large cannibalistic males, however i do still want to trap them. idk of any ponds in my area with crayfish in...

We look after a Nature Reserve with a stream flowing through and we applied to the EA for a licence to trap crayfish. They replied saying we needed to have the relevant qualifications gained from a recognised source. It certainly was not just a formality. This video is 3 years old so I'm assuming that things have changed since then ...

I love crayfish. I need to get back into it

That stream looks polluted 😂 then into tap water 😂
Amazing 😂😂

You’ve managed to make us want have a go a trapping yabbies (our freshwater crays) again Carl! Used to do it as kids with a bit of strong thread with a bit of meat on the end. Heaps of fun but we never ate them, just released them - I would now though!

Thanks Carl, never had crayfish before. I've only ever eaten a blueswimmer crab. Not for a while, but used to put them in a satay source.... I might need to go fishing lol

Thank you.. Would love to catch Crayfish. So will have to find out if we have any here in the river Anton in Andover. I love all types of shellfish but never tried Crayfish...

An alternative way to dispatch crayfish is to press the tip of a sharp knife against the carapace at the back of the head, push down and towards you. Death is instant. If you don't want to purge them overnight, dispatch them, then give tail a twist, press the two outer sections together and pull. The intestinal tract comes out in one go, removing anything you would have hoped to purge. All that's left to do is remove the tail and the claws as these are the only parts containing anything worth eating. The rest can be returned to the river as part of your next bait.

Have you heard of anywhere in North Wales that have these? My little boy has wanted to go for so long. We've watched your videos. 👍

I used to catch them in California they wAs literally as big as lobsters I'm not kidding they was just as delicious!

the river ouse is full of them,  got a few , a few years ago, left in bath for 24hrs, then boiled for 10 to 15mins,  nice

Crayfish are nocturnal. We got 10kg in one evening.
