It’s so funny that other rhythm games like osu get a lot of recognition for being super difficult yet games like ddr are often left out the convo thanks for making this video

DDR is so hard. This is very thoughtfully done, thank you for putting this together!!

DDR is hard because it's hard to even find the damn thing to play in a lot of countries

2:05 "feel the rhythm with your soul!" 9ms gold cab delay 😭 (amazing video :) )

It's closer to an actual sport than any other e sport too

i remember back in 07 begging my parents to drop me off at the mall every weekend to play DDR. They would give me 20-30 bucks for the night to get food. I would buy a couple dollar menu burgers and a sweet tea from McDonalds and spend the rest on the DDR cabinet in the arcade of this mall that was already on its way out. It only had a couple food places, a piano store, a comic book shop, Boscovs, and an arcade. Once they figured out what the money was going to, they bought one of those high end dance pads and an Xbox with a copy of DDR. My stepmom saw me playing one day. She was big into EDM and fitness and wanted to give it a try. After a i gave her a quick tutorial session to teach her how to properly play the game, she ended up using it for her cardio training. I still get a tickle thinking about how she would pull out the pad daily and play DDR for hours dressed like she was about to run a marathon. Sweat rag and water bottle in tow. We would take turns playing until the sun went down. The whole time, i was teaching her how to improve her form and read ahead of the map so she could better predict and identify the patterns that would be coming next. It came full circle though since she now actually runs marathons almost monthly I like to think that DDR helped her get there. I will forever love this game. It brought a rocky, kind of broken family together under one beat. It saved my life. Even when i was depressed and sad, DDR made me feel alive. Lemme stop gushing. Great video homie!

Pump it up is also up there, looser timing but much more complicated patterns.

dunc with the BARS! nice vid man, will be sending this to our non dance pilled friends <3

Can’t even begin to process how well put together this video is. This is MASTERFULLY informative! DDR is a hard game, but it’s given me more insight of how I got to this level in the first place, and frankly many others too.

Great video, Duncan!

Dunc just drops an algorithm banger

Great video! So glad to see the community still going strong 20 years after I was a part of it.

The top tier competitive level in any of the big name rhythm games is absolutely crazy. DDR/ITG/PIU adds the physical stamina aspect but honestly, top level Osu! and IIDX require equally insane skill and genetic predisposition.

man, love videos like these. DDR has also been a big part of my life and it's insanely difficult to pull off these high scores, let alone PFCs in this game. just wished this game had a little more recognition for how difficult it is to execute.

A lot of commendable aspects, but I think the wide swath of clips and b-roll are really what demonstrate the quality of this video. Great work! And it's easy for people to take issue with DDR being specifically cited over Pump and ITG, but obviously this argument applies to all dance games implicitly.

this is a game where you use your feet!

and ears and brain and arms (in many cases and fast twitch reflexes and so much more that even after 24 years still feels and looks so impossible to really reaaalllyyyy truly get everything right.

thanks for the hard work on this, dunc!!!!

This is so good Duncan! I hope you make more long form content like this! 🔥

great video man, nice work!
