Today on Generally Unquotable: The Department of Homeland Security is working with security for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints ahead of major events in Salt Lake City. We’ll look at the federal involvement and ask what the Church’s extensive security apparatus says about faith, protection and the very different risks expected of ordinary members and missionaries.
Then, survivors are asking the U.S. Supreme Court to hear an Arizona case involving clergy confidentiality and the LDS Church’s handling of reports. We’ll look at the Church’s position, what its protocols actually accomplished in this case, and the much bigger question of what protecting children should require from a church claiming divine authority.
Next, I’m breaking down Tamara Runia’s October General Conference talk about suffering, divine protection and the idea that painful experiences are part of God’s refining process. What happens when teachings about obedience bringing blessings and protection collide with real life? And what are the implications of saying that suffering happens “for” someone, or that these experiences are the “only way” to become like God, when that theology is applied to devastating experiences?
Finally, former Utah Rep. Trevor Lee resigned from the Legislature after being charged with four felonies, including communications fraud, mortgage fraud and forgery. We’ll look at the allegations and the end of a political career that included legislation targeting LGBTQ issues and Utah’s Pride flag controversy.
And I’m starting something new on Patreon! I have some really amazing books I’ve read over the years, and rather than letting them sit on my shelves, I want to start passing them along to Patreon supporters. Details are available on Patreon.

And not to be off-topics, but in my own research, and considering the role of BIGELOW in recent UFO interviews (w/George Knapp) plus all the controversy over Bigelow's "Skinwalker Ranch", it's interesting to watch the "insertion" of mormons into this weird topic, but also in relation to the recent, We want to be seen as "Christian" movement.
Because as you'll see here, the mormons or the church as a whole, is totally absent . . . MIA . . . in the strange affairs going on since the 1940s, and the even stranger goings-on, today.

You will notice, little mention of mormons.
The wider world is or must be, a concern for everyone! And sometimes it appears to me, mormons on the whole, are insulated, even after they leave the religion.
But it's things we should ALL be concerned.
