I’ve been in my career feild since I was 18 and with my current employer for eight years, working remotely, making decent income, I have stability—and I know how fortunate and privileged to have this life.

So why do I keep wondering:
Is this it or is there something better out there for me?

In today’s vlog, I’m cleaning my kitchen, bedroom and bathroom while talking through something that’s been on my mind for a while: changing careers later in life.

Starting over sounded a lot less terrifying when I was younger. Now there are kids, bills, a mortgage, health insurance, responsibilities and an entire household depending on things continuing to function.

You know…minor details. 😅

But lately I’ve been asking myself whether being grateful for a job means I have to stay in it forever.

Can you appreciate the stability something has given you and still admit that maybe you’ve outgrown it?

Can you change careers without throwing your entire life into chaos?

And are we really “starting over” when we already have years of experience, skills and life behind us?

I don’t have the answers yet. I’m not dramatically tossing my laptop into the yard and announcing that I’m off to find myself.

But I am allowing myself to ask:

What do I want the next chapter of my working life to look like?

If you’ve changed careers in your 40s, 50s or beyond, I would genuinely love to hear your experience.

Did you start over completely?
Did you go back to school?
Did you take a pay cut?
Were you terrified?
Was it worth it?
Or are you currently sitting in the same uncomfortable in-between place like me?

Tell me in the comments. I have a feeling I’m far from the only person thinking about this.

And while I try to figure out my life choices…
I can rest knowing that at least a bathroom is clean.
