I’m a 72 year old Flyers season ticket holder. In the early 70’s, maybe 71 or 72, I was in my seat at the Spectrum (old Flyers stadium, Flyers Bruins.

During the game, Bruins got a 2 minute minor penalty.

At the faceoff to start the penalty, Espo won the draw from Clarke, and the puck went to Orr. And for the next two minutes, Orr skated with puck, never passed it, never gave it up, skating no up and down the ice while the Flyers chased him. After two minutes, Orr shot it into the stands for a stoppage of play, and went to the Bruins bench.

Then, 17,007 Flyers fans (who hated everything about the Bruins) stood and gave Bobby Orr a standing ovation. And class act that he was, Orr hopped onto the ice, waved his stick to the crowd, and then got back on the bench.

Greatest player I’ve ever seen; nobody else is even close.

Red Wings fan here - I remember being in awe as a kid watching Orr fly down the ice.  Incredible hockey player!

Bobby was tough.  He had everything else but what made him the hockey player he was, was his toughness physical and mental.  Greatest hockey player who ever lived. EVER.

When the "Rocket" Richard came flying down the right wing boards and when Bobby Hull, (the Golden Jet) came flying through center ice, with the puck it was frightening for opposing goalies.  But when Bobby Orr circled his net and went from 1st gear to 4 gear in two strides, he was unstoppable, and Hull was right, the puck belonged to Orr, nobody else was going to touch it until he did his thing, he was the best ever.

I’m 68 and hockey was my life as a kid.  I’ve no greater athlete hero, than Bobby Orr.  Absolutely love the guy

Greatest player I've ever seen. Only defenseman to lead the league in scoring and he did twice. He wins the "eyeball test" he was more fun to watch than any player in the history of the NHL. The greatest player of all time.

Orr was more than just a gifted hockey player, he was like a real life superhero.
Watching him speed past opponents with his lions mane hair and Herculean will
was always epic entertainment. He defined an era of hockey that played their hearts out.

He's the only player I've ever seen, who could control the puck, and do whatever he wanted to do. His skating was on a higher level. Best player of all time. Plus he revolutionized the defensive position.

When I was a child I was a Toronto fan.  He was so good I "hated".  He was literally the best player I ever saw.  As a person he was a better person than most I have even heard of.

Another striking comment was by Bobby Clarke, who said he NEVER saw anybody take the puck off of Orr. And my thanks go out to all the people who are taking time to express the comments that are helping paint a picture of a true legend. A hero for the ages!

First him in the old Montreal Forum.  In only his second yiear when he got the puck behind his net everyone in the forum stood up all together to see how he was going to handle the rush.  He never disappointed.  On one such rush he skated through the entire skaters of Montreal and scored.  His performances were seen only once every few years.  He truly was the greatest player of all time.  Gretzky, Richard, Howe , Ovechskin were great players but not of the calibre of Bobby Orr.  I saw Richard in the 50's along with Howe and Gretzky during his hayday.  Great players but if you ever saw Orr play live you know what I mean regardless of what team you favour.

No one seemed more relaxed out there than Orr

I had the pleasure of growing up in Boston. I got to see Bobby Orr's career as I was growing up.

So lucky to have grown up watching hockey during his reign ❤

When Bobby Orr decided to rag the puck on a penalty kill, the opposing team’s players would go to the bench for a line change as it was useless trying to chase him.

I met Bobby in Toronto at the airport years ago ... we were both waiting for late night flights. We spent about 10i minutes chatting.  What a memorable experience... he was an absolute gentleman!!

The greatest. No single players comes close

If you would, let me tell you guys a quick story,  I was somewhere outside of Toronto, and Wayne Gretzky was signing autographs so stood in line, when my turn came I said to him, "So how does it feel being the 2nd greatest hockey player in NHL history?" He handed me back the autographed paper and said, "let me guess, you're from Boston, right?"

I’m a 70 year old originally from Boston area. I attended a game with my dad I think in 69. I couldn’t believe what my eyes saw . A one man band who had full command of anything and everything. You’re right he was and is the greatest hockey player ever saw. What a gifted man!

I remember seeing him in his prime -it literally appeared as if a fully grown man was playing with children
