Worth pointing out that these two cameras use effectively the same sensor.

Would love to see your comments on the zeiss cf 40mm f2. Amazing lens and close comparison I would have thought

11:56 that’s the electronic first curtain at max shutter speed. A filter would have rendered both images identical

Great comparison video and I think sums up what most of us already know.  If you're talking final image quality, you can easily achieve 95+% of a Leica with a Sony setup.  For me, it's really 1:1 because pixel peeping is not real world viewing anyway. I think your summary is 100% on point. There are two camps and you're either in one or the other. There's no wrong choice here.  Just one that makes the end buyer the happiest. I'm a enthusiast and have a Q3 28 and pair with RX100 VII to rid FOMO on travel.  A7RV for stuff that I can pack loads of gear for when weight I carry is not an issue or when I need max flexibility.

Nice video. Part of the value proposition is availability. Waiting for the Sony Rx1R III to come to life.

I have been using the sony a7cr and viltrox 28mm f4.5 lens and treating it like my everyday "Leica Q3" alternative. Things I like about it: very nice lens rendering and vintage feel but still really sharp. To me it's perfect image quality with a mix of resolution, nostalgia and sharpness. It is also smaller and lighter than a q3, 166 grams lighter. Things I don't like about it: Does not focus close enough "for me anyway", stuck at f4.5, not weather sealed. Other than that I love it. It has made me realize I love the 28mm focal length for everyday carry. I am considering a q3 now so I can take it hiking, the weather sealing, edc, macro mode, aesthetic. I am just wondering if I'll miss the magic rendering of the viltrox 28, because it does something to the images I just can't explain. They look really film like but not like one of those crappy pinhole lens cap lenses or whatever. The images are sharp. Anyway these are my thoughts on it.

Great balanced review. I have the A7CR and love it. I also bought the 40mm lens a while back because of the size but it's not a patch on the 35mm GM or even the Loxia if you prefer manual focus. I keep considering the Leica but I'm hoping Sony will upgrade the screen and finder on the A7CR ii like they did with other cameras. I'd definitely get that instead of the Leica because focus is the one thing that's difficult to correct in post.

From the settings each camera chose it seems the Q3 is quite a bit darker than T2, like almost 2 thirds of a stop! And it seems to have some more vigneting too (or the profile for the sony 40mm is more agressive). Quite interesting, but what a fantastic performance in sharpness and contrast! I own the sony 40 and I knew it was an amazing performer but I didn't expect them to be that close, I'm even happier with my little lens now haha. Nice comparison, I also observed the Sony 40 performs better at medium distances compared to far distances, like you showed with the Disneyland pink building, it was definitely not designed to be optimal at infinity

thank you for this very good comparison, now can you give us the comparison of the SL3 with the A7RV thank you

Thank you for helping me save so much money! No need to upgrade from Sony to Leica Q3.

Cool comparison I was especially impressed by how well the Sony performed at f2.0 and 2.2 compared to the Q343 despite being ever so slightly smaller.

I’am an oldschool professional photographer.  Stopped taking pictures when I sold my shop in 1983. Now 42 years later I retired from my latest profession and picked up photography again.  Took me about a year to decide  wich camera to choose.  I first looked at my old time faforites Leica-M. But looking at my pensioen fund I dropped that option,. Four weeks ago I finaly decided and bought a Sony a7cr. Watched at least 10 video reviews before and after my purchase. Your video confirmed I made the right decision . I love my new digital camera it makes me feel I’m still shooting like I used to with my M4. I still can use my old M-lenses after I find the right adaptor. I’am very pleased with my new found friend. Thanks for an excelent video.

Thank You!

thank you

Put some Leica glass on the A7CR and you're done!

Besides costing half as much as the Leica, the A7CR has the added advantage of being able to use all of the Sony lenses.  And Sony has much better lenses than that 40mm.  But, if anyone can afford a Leica and likes using that system, fine, shoot whatever you like.  I originally bought the A7CR for travel.  But, I find myself using it along side my A7RV when I'm home.

I was gonna sell my A7C ii and buy a Leica Q3 43 but after watching this video I changed my mind. Now I want to buy m11😂

wow so sharp and clean and clean perfect image... now let me slap on a film filter and put some nice grain and make it nostalgic lofi ). in fairness this is more a lens comparison than a camera comparison. 8k lens vs $500

Excellent comparison of these two wonderful cameras. I'm looking at both. As a long time Sony shooter I like the idea of the interchangeable lenses, but I'm looking for something a little different. Something to give me a little different luck. I do see subtle color differences with the Leica versus the Sony.

I use my Sony 40mm G on an a7IV and a7RIV, it’s a really great and fun lens for the money. It holds its own pretty well against the expensive Leica. Pros and cons to each of them for sure, but at least I can put a better/different lens on my Sony bodies… Also, I think I’d like the Leica better if it was 42mm, haha. 🤓📷

Sony really does need to up their game with the evf, and screen quality. The EVF is a bit better on the regular bodies but they all could use improvement. Also, the sony compact cameras need two card slots or at least some built in storage… Thanks for the comparison.
