I think Rita made Dexter more human, she wasn’t silly—she’s was kind and loving

She looks amazing. She hasn’t aged one bit since Dexter

This explains why she didn’t come back for future seasons in a flashback

The irony is the show never found a better match for Dexter. Or better chemistry for Hall.

Rita & Deb two of favorite characters seriously can not watch their death scenes because I still get teary eyed till this day.

What if we didn’t care?! Nooooooo. It was THE most shocking, devastating, crushing death in TV history. We were all so sad, and still… to this day in 2025, watching S4, it’s CLEAR the writers knew exactly where they were going. There’s immense foreshadowing, and it continues to feel so unfair to the story. Maybe it made “sense” but it wasn’t enjoyable and we were all robbed of future storylines w Rita and Dexter.

How is she even better looking now?

I had no idea she was unhappy with how that went down. That was a really weak way to treat someone who was a large part of making that show what it was. We love you Rita!!! ❤️

Michael C Hall didn’t even know of her death until the very moment he walked into that bathroom strictly for authentic shock value!

She had an iconic departure, maybe in all of tv history. Interesting hearing this side of it. Obviously it's hard to be pulled out of something you helped build, but to be a part of so many peoples favorite tv show along with being in such a breathtaking moment in tv history, it really is something rare. I love Julie Benz though, and I was heartbroken for her to be off the show and in all solace, the show wasn't quite as good after she wasn't on it any more.

Such a sweet woman. Ages like wine too. Beautiful inside and out.

The writing of her death was great. It was an incredibly impactful moment and came at a reasonable point in the series. They SHOULD have had her informed and prepared that her character's story might be coming to that tragic end.

I recently started watching this show, and I finished 4 seasons, and her death has just really disappointed me to the core, like really disturbed and I haven't continued to watch since a few days now

How awful to go through that. I do really hope she could guest star on Dexter Resurrection… I wonder if it would give everyone more closure? And omg we would all LOVE to see Rita again!!!!

I would have never guessed she felt that way. Good for her for being honest about how she felt but not being so salty that all we think of is her complaining. That would have ruined the what she left behind. I couldn’t imagine where they go with Dexter though if she stayed alive

I actually think the writer stole the idea from the movie “Seven” with Brad Pitt. Because you know, at the end of that one you think they got their man but the real winner was where Kevin Spacey as John Doe got one on his actual killer. You know Dexter thought he won because he killed Trinity but when he got home, he realized Trinity got one on him too.
