VW Porsche 914: A Coveted “People’s Porsche”
Porsche’s sports car expertise, VW’s air-cooled boxer engine, assembled by Karmann in Osnabrück: The concept of the VW Porsche 914 was controversial throughout its production run from 1969 to 1976. Some praised the car as an affordable “VW Porsche.” Others scoffed at the “people’s Porsche,” arguing it had little in common with a “real” Porsche. Only about 120,000 units of the coupé were ever built. This is one reason why the VW Porsche 914 is a sought-after classic car today – with excellent acceleration, good cornering, and agile handling.
Our example was purchased in April 1973 by its first owner in Washington State; the original registration certificate is available. In 1978, the VW Porsche changed hands within Washington state. In 2014, the vehicle was re-imported back to Germany, and it has been with its current German owner since 2016.
Our VW Porsche 914 is equipped to meet the higher safety standards for vehicles in the USA at the time, including reinforced bumpers, seatbelt systems, and side impact protection in the doors.
Since 2014, over €16,500 has been invested in the vehicle, documented by invoices.
