A few minutes in and you've already hit on one thing I've always loved about the LiS games from DontNod in particular: all the little details. Whether its Sean singing or the bike comment or the moment in the mirror: all of these things can be missable, but there are so many other little moments just like them that help the world and characters feel extremely well rounded.

This game has gotta be the best in the series for me in terms of storytelling and choices actually holding weight

Personally, out of all the LiS games, this effected me the most emotionally.

I think despite it's flaws, LiS2 is the hardest choices-matter game I've ever played, the weight of responsibility is SO HEAVY! When it first came out, I had to stop playing it cuz it was so stressful and when I finally did, I constantly had to go reach out to my little brothers to remind myself they were okay

when brody says "that's the past" pointing at arcadia bay…the fans should have taken that to heart

I feel like the start of this game is accidentally genius, because you're genuinely expecting that if you choose the healthy shit over the alcohol, that there's gonna be a different outcome at the party like in every other choiced story based game, Jenn likes you or not, and then BOOM. It comes completely out of left field and shatters you. Like I was just realxing and expecting a LiS 1 type school story with classmates and clubs and shit, and then the game completely pulled the rug from my feet and I love it for that. It feels fresh. I hope what I said made sene 😅

this game broke my heart. It' was so terribly sad. I can't even play it again because the story traumatized me.

I’m so happy this game is finally getting the respect it deserves it’s my favourite  game in the franchise

This is my favorite game in the series. Something about it is so comforting despite how dark things can get. The atmosphere is beautiful and the connection between Sean and Daniel is amazing. The game does a great job to actually get you into Sean’s head and feel how he does.

Also blood brothers is definitely the best ending in my opinion. I don’t think they really had a connection to any gangs I think they might have just been getting extorted by them or something. But yeah the brothers being together after that whole journey only feels right. Sean does not deserve to rot in prison for half his life for crimes he didn’t even commit that’s like worse than the Sean dying ending lol

Comforting quiet is such a perfect phrase to sum up the experience of this game.

Deck Nine could never recreate those feelings of the first two Life is strange games. There's something so unique to those games' atmospheres. I don't think anyone but the original studio knows how to get it rightt

This was the LiS game that actually worsened my depression. The whole story and characters are just so sad, really shows how unfair the world could become.

1:11:17 There it is. This was the moment that almost got the tears outta me. Not the tragic ending. The helpful ending. Somehow kids having to say goodbye to each other knowing it's forever... Yeah, man. There's something so pure and devastating about it.

i played this game when i was 9 and my brother was 17, i think you can tell how attached i am to this story, thank you for this video 😿

I don't know, the whole chococrisp pronunciation issue to me adds to the world. Just like how they say different people say things in different ways like the Bernstein in Bernstein Bears for example

Off topic, I am from Latam, and the voice from Sean is actually from Argentina, not mexico and I can feel it sometimes when he speaks Spanish, is a minor detail but still

life is strange 1 will always be the most special to me. but this game is really something different in a way i love. it definitely deserved its own name rather than just life is strange 2

I remember this video getting hate left right and center, but now all I see are videos praising it. Whilst it’s not my favourite of the franchise, I appreciate these new approaches to the game and it’s really changing my mind about it in a good way :)

With regards to the theme of Morality vs Brotherhood, I find it helpful to think of it less as a dichotomy of “good vs selfish” and more as like, differing principles. Does Sean want Daniel to try and work within the status quo (for better or worse), or does he want Daniel to screw all that and put himself and his family first (for better or worse)? And both sides come with their good points and their bad points.

The (subjectively, but cmon) worst endings in the game come from there being an obvious contradiction in Sean’s behavior (the behaviour he models to Daniel through your choices), and between what he insists Daniel do at the end— but, the bad endings do not inherently come from choosing one side or the other.  As such, I don’t think the game is inherently saying that quote-unquote “Morality” is good and “Selfish Brotherhood” is bad, it’s more just inviting you to weigh which is more important to you in the end: raising Daniel to be a functioning member of society, with all its systemic injustices (so as to hopefully give him better opportunities within that system), or to say “fuck the system” and raise him to prioritize himself and his family in opposition to the system, even if it might place them in an overall less healthy environment situationally.

Do I think it executed this idea perfectly? Oh hell no, absolutely not. But I think viewing it from this lens can amend some of the more black-and-white thinking implied by its decisions.

Gonna save most of this for when you're finished, but to my point about there being more nuance with the morality: there's more complexity to whether Daniel tells Chris the truth, and what happens with him and the car at the end of episode two. To start, it isn't as simple as Daniel doing as you ask or not if you tell him to stop lying to Chris: because he can lie to you in turn. He can say he will tell Chris the truth, and not do it. This can lead to Chris getting hit by a car as well, but not always. Because there is also more to encouraging Daniel to use his power or not.

The way Daniel acts in the game isn't just about what you literally tell him to do, but what he learns from watching Sean, and the relationship you have with him. If your relationship is poor and you didn't agree to never lie to Daniel, he will straight up lie to you in turn, and will often not listen or be more argumentative in general. The way he uses his power is effected in a similar way: there are a lot of little moments where you can encourage Daniel to use his power that don't effect his morality at all, but rather effect the relationship he has with Sean, and how much control Daneil has over his powers. All of that to say...Daniel can lie to Chris, and then use his power to save him by making the car run off the road, leaving Chris unharmed but realizing the powers aren't his. So I do think that demonstrates that there's more nuance to the way choices and morality are interacting here, but I'll say more about that when I've finished the video.
