DIY infrared transmitter (Arduino Uno Programming Basics)

In this Video I show you how to drive a 100mA infrared diode using an Arduino Uno R3.
I am using a transistor amplifier circuit and explain every component selection in detail.
I also show you how you can use multiple resistors to match a desired value.

In the end I use the setup to control both ONKYO AV Receiver and BENQ Beamer with the Arduino using the IRremote library in the Arduino IDE

This is awesome. Every other tutorial says "yoU HaVe to uSe rESisTor And TRanSIStOR!!" and noone ever bother to explain how to deal with voltages. Thank you very much, this couldn't be simpler!

Oliver, thank you for this very well explained video. I just completed my first Arduino project with this help of this video (and another person's video that did not go into as much detail as you). I have a very old Onkyo surround sound receiver that receives audio from my TV using optical. Using optical, the volume control on the TV remote has no effect.

Using this video I created a device that listens to my TV remote for volume, power, and mute buttons and retransmits this as though it came from the Onkyo remote. Now my TV remote is the only one I need.

Thanks so much for helping me understand where to look to the datasheet for the values needed and how to use them.

I used Gemini to try and get values for using an ESP32 with 3.3v on the base and 5v to the led using a C945 transistor and aiming at 80ma just to be on the safe side for now. It got the led resistor right at 40 ohms but the base resistor it go far, far too low at just over 300 ohms instead of the 2k I got with your help knowing that I'd have 2.3v after the base saturation drop of 1v and a min amplification of 70.

I'm finding different datasheets for the c945, some saying 0.3v and others 0.6v for the collector emitter saturation.

I've got it working before knowing the values and it's good but the range wasn't as good as my actual remotes. I will measure the collector a base voltage drops to be sure.

I'm now well on the way to what I hope is going to be a super universal remove for smart plugs, wake on lan, controlling the tv and Firestick and whatever else I can think of adding.
