Great early stories. The tuning stuff is hilarious. My first guitar was from a pawn shop and I got a discount because it only had 5 strings. Couldn't tune it and it had a 1 inch action. Jedson I think. And I was in London, not up north. Learning a Clash song was a feeling I can' t explain. Before punk, that stuff was for other people. Then all of a sudden we could all do it. Fun interview.

As a PNE fan , Blackpool is a strange town but i wouldn't say it to his face .

Weird parallel, as a punk growing up in Morecambe. Younger than JR, but we had HITS, and I'd never been in half the venues that were used for that punk fest. Sneaked into the Clash aged 14 hidden in a donkey jacket after being turned away due to age restrictions, and we all bought the punk mantra hook line and sinker. Those of us still alive are still attending gigs, and Rebellion. Look forward to reading Punk Rock Ruined my life.

Did a gig once, with exactly that tuning problem, and a support band said, "here, this guitar is in tune" 🤣

I doubt Noddy Holder was ever accused of being a great writer after his autobiography but I loved it. Even though it was a bit linear & unpeppered, half of my enjoyment reading it was in imagining him as the narrator. I’d listen an audiobook about lawnmower repair if he was at the helm!

Status Quo, the British Ramones, spot on, both fantastic bands

Enjoyed that! John Robb can talk forever. Like his passion a lot, plus known him since the early '80s when he was pushing his (Blackpool) Rox! fanzine via the same network of 'zines, cassettes and small labels I was also wired into with my 'zine. He'd always send a huge wad of flyers for his 'zine and The Membranes, and I'd often receive them from others he'd also obviously sent them to. Definitely a gold medallist networker back in the day. Anyway, watched most of these so far. Think there a couple too many calls to subscribe, though!
