Walmart didnt recieve penalties in Germany for having "competitive prices", they were outright selling at a loss, backed up by the billions of dollars they make in the us. all in an attempt to drive out German retailers until they would collaps so they could then raise prices again. that is not competitive priceing, thats matket manipulation. the German law actually protects competitive capitalism in thatvway
One of the weirdest and completely unnecessary cruel rule from Walmart is, that the cashier's aren't allowed to sit! Here in Europe that seems completely bonkers, there is no advantage doing that job standing, it's a pointless abuse of employees in my book!
Walmart also tried to forbid its employees to have intimate relationships among each other, which is fucking stupid, and also illegal in Germany. Walmart tried to push hard for forcing their American workplace culture on German employees which was in large parts simply against German law.
One of the most unpleasant things that can happen to you in a store is when, as soon as you step through the door, some aggressively grinning clown startsle you with "-what can I do for you?". No, thank you!! 😮
So what you're telling me, is that one of the major reasons American companies fail in Europe is because they're built to be fundamentally unethical and Europe has regulations against it? Go figure.
The part about Walmart wasn't entirely correct. The did not run afoul of competition laws with competitive prices, they used destructive pricing. They tried to incur losses until every competition was dead and then raise prices to whatever people in need of food could be gouged out of to make up for the initial losses. While Walmart may be the largest grocery chain in the world, with their 90 or so stores they never were in Germany. And the long-established companies weren't going to take that lying down with their own considerable market power. And the German stores kept up with that destructive nonsense until the courts had caught up with Walmart. Violating labour rights left and right, and creeping out staff and customers with fake didn't help them any, either.
