15 Rarest Parrots in the World That Look Too Beautiful to Be Real
Somewhere in a forest right now there is a parrot holding a stick in one foot and drumming it against a hollow branch. There is a parrot whose male and female look so different that for two hundred years science filed them as separate species. And there is a parrot that cannot fly, comes out only at night, smells faintly of honey, and was declared gone before a handful of survivors turned up on an island at the bottom of the world.
Watch to the end. Number one is the largest parrot on the planet — a metre of cobalt blue that almost nothing else in the wild can match.
We count down from 15 to 1 across four continents, covering the eclectus parrot, sun conure, galah, golden conure, palm cockatoo, Major Mitchell's cockatoo, Pesquet's parrot, red-fan parrot, blue-throated macaw, kea, yellow-eared parrot, salmon-crested cockatoo, Spix's macaw, kakapo and hyacinth macaw — where each one lives, what makes it unlike any other bird, and how close some of them came to disappearing.
