I’m British, and my wife Dijana is Croatian. We live together in the UK and have been together for 8 years. About a week ago, I decided to start learning Croatian! I’m one week in, and honestly, I feel like a baby deer on ice — it’s so difficult! I’m 45 years old now, but I’m determined.
I’ve learned that it takes around 1,000 hours of study to hold basic conversations, and about 5,000 hours to become fluent. My goal is to study 2 hours every day, since we’re planning to visit Croatia next year. That gives me 10 months to learn enough for everyday conversations.
My wife will help by spending 2 hours each week speaking to me only in Croatian — no English at all, even if I don’t understand.
I’m so happy I found your channel 💛
