When I have completed full reviews of all the Season 1 episodes, I shall retire from doing this channel 💀

The fabled Shiny Smithers

You know you're unemployed when you have a 5 o'clock shadow growing from your 5 o'clock shadow

To me, the batshit crowd shot looks like something drawn by very tired people. These are the kinds of designs you come up with when you've been working on something under a deadline so long you don't even know your own name anymore

The “Oh well. Live and learn.” line when Homer finds a boulder at the bridge after carrying one all the way there is one of my favourite dark jokes in the series

Simpsons Mysteries idea: Who exactly lives on Evergreen Terrance, who were those two old people who yelled at Homer, why did they vanish, who else lives on this street, where is it on relation to the rest of Springfield,
or the mystery what exactly is the map of Springfield and its neighborhoods, sometimes it feels like a small town, other times it's drawn as a midsize city with no skyscrapers, so what exactly would Springfield look like as a map, where is Moes in relation to the Power Plan to the Kwiki Mart to the school and more

That's Waylon's half brother Warren, he asked him to cover for a day because sadly he knew no one cares enough to notice

The darker colors used for the shots of Homer looking suicidal mixed with season 1’s uncanny look give off the vibe of screencaps from a creepypasta

The crowd scene makes Springfield look like its populated by characters from the Mr Men kids books

One thing that is not usually mentioned is how this is the episode where Homer gets the job he has for the rest of the show, and this was kinda retconed. Before this episode Homer wasn't the security inspector of the central, so any flashback episode where he is on his usual workstation, would be wrong.

Otto driving twice past the school declaring it a 'shortcut' is still one of my favorite jokes

You know how they did that Treehouse of Horror with the Tracey Ullman Simpsons? They need to do one with Black Smithers.

9:10 The Winfields comment "One of my favourite moments in series history" whoa really? "from them" ah ok

Despite the sadness of it all, this has one tremendously funny line:
“You’re not as stupid as you look. Or sound. Or our best testing indicates.”

2:40 look! it's the tall bart!

Homer tries to off himself and Smithers is black. What a wild time early Simpsons was

The "I WILL NOT REST UNTILL THIS STREET GETS A STOP SIGN!" is one of the best-delivered lines in the show, and it does A LOT of heavy lifting for this episode.

Season 1 Homer is such a mood. Him actually acting like a strict reasonable father figure instead of a goofy incompetent man child we’re all used to was honestly kinda jarring at first, but i’ve grown to really enjoy this earlier version of the character.

I think the issue of act 1 being seen through Bart's eyes, and not having enough screen time establishing Homer, could have been fixed if Homer was the one tasked with leading the school group. Homer's incompetence at his job could really be shown to Bart and to the audience (a scene where Homer describes some important equipment as "that thingy" or fail to answer basic questions from Mrs Krabappel), really letting him humiliate himself BEFORE he crosses a line and gets fired.

"Black Smithers isn't real.  He can't hurt you".
