I've come to realize that the hardest part of investing isn't finding opportunities, it's knowing how to build a portfolio that can handle the inevitable mistakes along the way. People thinking selling puts is a good idea: it is an asymmetric trade NOT in your favour. Limited upside with a much larger downside. One bad trade can wipe out all your profits. The receipt of premium is a sucker’s game. Now what could you do that would have limited downside and unlimited upside? Do that.

Great presentation. Back in the early days of trading (4 yrs ago), I’ve had a chance to make good money on “playing” the iron condor. It was on AMZN stock. I had zero knowledge on trend and cycle, but somehow I dodged the bullets. Countless of them. And then AMZN did the stock split. The premium became boring and I quit. Started learning trend and cycle. Only then, I realized that selling options wasn’t as easy as I thought. And yes, the question kept hanging in front of me “is this stock worth owning at that strike if I get assigned?” 99% of the time, the answer was a “no”. And I moved on.

Hans's 'premium isn't income' distinction is the most underpriced idea in option-selling education — collected premium is compensation for contingent liability, not yield. Letting the chart choose the strike instead of your target price forces exactly the discipline most put sellers abandon. The 'open Monday, close Friday' rule alone would save newer sellers from over-management.

I’ve been doing this successfully for years. It is more effective to do this with highly volatile stocks and when the VIX is high. Great video and you explained it perfectly

One needs to see where the stock is in the bollinger bands and where the moving averages are. And keep cash to average down . Don’t trade expensive stocks if you can’t average down. . I agree assignment will happen.

Here’s my take: if the stock is at 100, I sell a put at 100 or slightly above. If the put gains 100% in value, I buy it back. If you’re wrong on the direction, you’re wrong on the direction. Fold and live to trade another day.

Using short sales to cover the put you sell while it is above the strike price works if someone is worried about stock going down at expiration. I feel this is actually not as risky as shorting sounds.
