Today, we took on another challenging cleanup project along a busy sidewalk near a crowded intersection. What began as an ordinary day of clearing overgrown grass soon turned into one of the most mysterious and unforgettable experiences our team has ever encountered.

The sidewalk was nearly five meters wide, but more than half of it had disappeared beneath a thick blanket of weeds and tangled vines. Plastic waste was scattered everywhere, and a terrible smell rose from the ground as we approached. It was clear that this forgotten space had been neglected for a very long time.

Thankfully, we were not alone. A young man from the nearby area, who regularly helps the community with cleanup projects, rode his motorbike over to lend us a hand. His unexpected kindness gave us even more motivation to tackle the enormous amount of work ahead.

As we began pulling away the thick grass and vines, something strange slowly emerged from beneath the overgrowth.

At first, we thought it was just another forgotten object buried along the sidewalk. But as more of the grass was removed, we realized we had uncovered a small shrine.

In Vietnamese culture, shrines like this may be used to honor deities or the spirits of people who have passed away. Some are placed near cemeteries or along roadsides as a way of showing respect to the unseen world.

But why was this shrine hidden beneath layers of grass and vines, right beside a busy sidewalk?

None of us knew.

The moment we realized what we were looking at, an eerie feeling swept through the team. The atmosphere suddenly seemed different. We became nervous, wondering whether our work might disturb something that had been forgotten for years.

Was this simply an abandoned shrine? Or was there a story behind it that no one had ever discovered?

We had no answers. And perhaps some mysteries are better left unexplained.

Instead of ignoring it, we carefully cleared away every blade of grass and tangled vine covering the shrine. We worked gently and respectfully, making sure not to damage anything. Once the surrounding area was clean, we placed the shrine back in its original position.

For our team, cleaning up the community is not just about removing trash or making sidewalks look beautiful. It is also about respecting the people who live there, the spirits of those who have passed away, and every living creature we encounter along the way.

A clean sidewalk is important. But no matter how difficult the work becomes, we never want our efforts to harm anyone—or anything.

As the last piles of weeds were cleared away, the forgotten sidewalk slowly returned to life. What had once been hidden beneath an enormous mass of grass and waste was finally visible again.

Yet the mysterious little shrine remained, quietly standing beside the road.

Who placed it there? How long had it been hidden? And what stories might the overgrown grass have been concealing all these years?
