Welcome back to another week at Fensmere on The Fensmere Carpy Chronicles!

The nightmare following the failure of the Fensmere lake outlet pipe and dam continues, but we've managed to rescue another batch of carp and get them safely back to Fensmere Fish Farm.

After the first emergency netting, when we managed to save as many of the biggest carp as possible, I finally took a few days off to relax and enjoy my birthday. But there was no escaping the work for long, because there were still plenty of fish potentially trapped in the remaining water at Fensmere.

With the bung holding throughout the week and recent rainfall actually raising the water level, we organised another team and headed back out onto the lake for a second netting operation.

The result? Another ten fish rescued and transported to the safety of the fish farm!

But the big question remains: how many carp are still in Fensmere?

I suspect there could be around 15 fish remaining, although some may have escaped underneath the lead line during the netting operations. There is also the possibility that some of the bigger carp were sitting in a deeper hole and the net simply passed over their heads. Until the water drops further, we won't know for certain.

The plan now is to carefully remove the bung and allow the lake to drain down further, monitoring the water levels and rescuing any remaining fish as soon as it is safe and practical to reach them.

Meanwhile, the construction work cannot stop.

I've now finished preparing the base for the splitter on the new diversion channel. The next stage is to prepare the concrete base, install the starter rebar and construct the walls that will direct the stream either into Fensmere or around the lake.

Unfortunately, the big CAT excavator has decided to cause more problems and refused to start, so I've had to call the repair team back in. If we can get the machine running again, I can finish excavating through the dam wall and complete the bypass channel.

That will allow us to divert the stream around Fensmere completely, making it much easier to investigate exactly what went wrong with the old outlet pipe and plan the construction of the new concrete monk system.

The new monk must be completed before we can safely bring the water back into Fensmere, refill the lake and eventually return the rescued carp.

So, another week of fish rescues, lake repairs, construction planning and plenty of stress. There is still a long way to go, but the work continues!

Thanks to everyone who has been following the Fensmere story and supporting me through what has been an incredibly difficult time.
