Sorry for the delay on the video, I have a new computer and the newer version of the editing Software apparently had an issue with one of my older files and it wouldn't want to export past 92% 😭 Figuring out the issue cost me 3 useless hours of my life but at least it's fixed now 🥹

As a beginner I am up to my second art talens sketchbook , it makes sense to me because I use it as an illustrated journal so I write and draw and only do very light watercolor washes, I also carry small loose watercolor sheets that I can glue and add to it. It’s economical and frees me mentally to use it a lot. This way I’m going through one per month and drawing a lot. I love the off white creamy paper it gives it a vintage look and to me it’s special. I like the art creation sketchbooks as they are so cheap that I don’t worry about wasting paper with bad art and thus I’m much more creative. Can’t really say it’s suitable for watercolour though a light wash is fine. I use mine neocolours with a water brush where you don’t use as much water and that works for me. I am sad however that so far the white paper version only comes in the cork covers not all the pretty colours.

I think the art creations sketchbooks are really great and affordable. I have done light washes, but I don't usually use watercolor in it. However, I have used gouache quite a bit. It's obviously not as good as a quality watercolor sketchbook, but for general use, they are quite good. Also for acrylic pens, and I love the smooth texture with colored pencils and neocolors.

I like these sketchbooks their pages cream pages does not dazzle or hurt my eyes like while white paper does. It is affordable, like the colours and sizes it comes in. It does take watercolour if you don't use to much water . Alcohol markers do bleed, though I don't use them they give me headaches.

Thanks for the review! I have always used like really nice watercolor paper, but recently i want to keep a sketchbook for something more casual. I got both of the Talen and Hanemule. Your video perfectly speaks the sentiments about them!

I went shopping with Liz and had been looking online at the Royal Talens sketchbooks and saw them in her store. I love the price and they were much cheaper in the actual physical store than Amazon. In the end, she recommended Hahnemühle and she said it would match my needs better. For this reason, I'm excited about this video of yours, as I already wanted to know what these books are like, compared to a premium one.

For the record, I'm absolutely loving the Hahnemühle one and have no regrets. I'm still happy to see a full review of the RTs ones. I'm thinking they might be great for non pressure work.

There are at least two models Art Creation with white paper: the black cower with gold pattern and the one with cork like cover!

i use the talens , though use clear gesso to it , to keep the toned paper , its working perfect and you can do lots with it, for me a sketchbook is for experiment , not a showcase

I love mine for all the reasons you mentioned, and I’m more likely to experiment with all types of media in mine because they aren’t as expensive as watercolour journals.

I'm just glad there's more options these days for artists who might not necessarily care about painting on 100% cotton paper because not every artist is gonna like the Canson sketchbooks, and not every artist is gonna like the Royal Talens sketchbooks. Like you said at one point- it's all down to individual tastes.

I tend to have an art creation sketchbook stuffed in my bag because it works well enough with most mediums I tend to carry around (including watercolours). Pure cotton watercolour sketchbooks I tend to save for the studio or more planned plein air sessions.

I discovered RT sketchbooks only when I was looking for a decent sketchbook with cream paper. This is one point that even after this presentation RT is still my best option 😅

I like Royal Talens, it's not super expensive (or at least it wasn't when I've gotten them in the past) and there are a lot of pages. It's not suitable for heavy washes but does pretty well with light washes. I like most mediums in it generally, it's a good everyday sketchbook in my opinion.

I use the Talens sketch book only with watercolor at this point. I am a beginner, I must say, and I definitely see the difference and that you can't use every watercolor technique with it. But it also teaches me to paint faster and to think more before painting. And I did some of my better paintings, even heavy pigmented and with more layers, with the Talens sketch book. And I don't hesitate to use it like with expensive watercolor paper.
