The French teams haven't exactly been going well so far this year, not that that will stop the crowds flocking to Dijon-Prenois to cheer on the Ligiers and Renaults - two all-French teams down to the rubber and the fuel. But the big Matra V12 and Renault's turbos could go well at this power circuit, and at a pinch the fans would accept a good result for the French and French-Canadian drivers at Ferrari.

I love that they had that disastrous start sequence, but enough cars went that they just rolled with it. Imagine doing that today.

5:32 Perhapst that's what the current era of F1 is missing; circuits built around extinct volcanoes. Or, even, active volcanoes.

That 1-minute long camera shot starting at 15:10 makes for a cracking historic visual! Well done for including it. So much variety in the car designs back in the 80's.

Ah McEnroe....between him and Elliot Teltscher. I don't know who was more of a pain in the arse for the tennis umpires - if you haven't seen Teltscher's meltdowns in the French Open in 81 or against Onny Parun I eh...they're quite something. Not much of a tennis afficionado but that era fascinates me plus there's always some weird humour in what I would imagine was seen as "American spoilt child" syndrome when something doesn't go their way back in the day.

Something about Dijon I like - don't know why other than "it's not Paul Ricard." But Piquet definitely had a face that would beat the living shit out of anyone that was in his way. I understand, he does all the hard work only for someone to say "we haven't reached the required amount of laps oh and we've no new tyres left." Makes it a bit of a lottery. Which was essentially motor racing at that time.
