The reason the creator Chris Sawyer built the game almost entirely in Assembler is because he wanted everyone with a computer to be able to play it. He wanted it to be the most optimized it could possibly be. The only not-Assembler code is some very basic C he used to interface with Windows and DirectX because while Sawyer might be an insane person, he's not as insane as to write his own graphics drivers. His dedication to performance and optimization is a very stark contrast to modern game development using shitty engines like UE5 that require a supercomputer to run at 30 fps. In an alternate world more gaming companies are headed by people like Sawyer, playing brand new games on 10-15 year old devices with no problem.

I remember drawing Hell Zone as an anime girl for the art segment in my sketchbook. It wasn't very good- but since that time I've finished high school, went to art school, and became a professional artist. Thankful to Joel for being a solid dude to follow for so many years.

Fuck yeah man. Joel’s RCT2 streams were the best thing to rewatch. Can’t believe it’s been 10 years.

I thought I was having a stroke with seeing this again. I started watching Joel and the Vinesauce community back when his first series of this was uploaded and now I feel old

Christmas has come early. Joel’s RTC was the first video I watched and has been history ever since. Got me through university and one of the darkest times of my life. Thank you for this my guy it’s truly made my day!
