■ What is the Yosakoi Festival?
 ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄ ̄
Originating in Kochi Prefecture, this is one of Japan's most iconic festivals. The dance rules call for dancing while holding a musical instrument called a "naruko."
As long as the dancers incorporate some of the phrases from the traditional "Yosakoi Naruko Dance," they are free to choose their own musical arrangements, choreography, and costumes. This allows for a wide variety of unique dance styles, from rock to samba to Japanese, creating one of the festival's greatest attractions.
