One day, the familiar red star on Orion's shoulder will be replaced by one of the most extraordinary events our sky can produce. When Betelgeuse finally collapses, the first warning may arrive not as light, but as a burst of neutrinos escaping from the dying core before the visible explosion reaches the surface. Tonight we follow that event from the hidden collapse inside the star to the first brilliant flash, the long afterglow, and the remnant left behind when Betelgeuse itself is gone. We will see how astronomers could receive an early warning, why the explosion would be spectacular but not dangerous to Earth, and how Orion could permanently lose one of its most famous stars. Betelgeuse is not expected to explode anytime soon. But when it finally does, our night sky will never look quite the same.
