Located between Yakushima and Amami Oshima in Kagoshima Prefecture, the Tokara Islands are one of Japan's most remote island chains.
On one of those islands, Akusekijima, lives an angler who loved fishing so much that he chose to make the island his home.
That angler is VARIVAS Field Staff Hayate Anazawa.
In these legendary waters, amberjack weighing up to 75 kg have already been confirmed. With fish of that size inhabiting the area, the existence of an unseen 80 kg-class giant is far from impossible.
In this film, Hayate shares the unique appeal of these extraordinary waters, along with his tackle setup, techniques, and local knowledge for targeting giant amberjack with jigs—all from the perspective of an angler who calls Akusekijima home.
