I personally don’t remember much about the movie let alone the franchise so coming back to it was really interesting. Why are they in the Maze? - They’re part of an experiment to study immune brains and find a cure for the Flare virus. It sounds outlandish at first, but its some jazz about how their brains can fight off the virus and "act differently" so by putting the kids in a high-stress situation with a clean slate, they can use the information gathered to figure out what makes them different. This is explored again briefly in the third movie.
What's the purpose of the Maze/grievers? - The Maze is a massive stress test created by WCKD (the people running the experiments) to study immune teens’ problem-solving and teamwork under extreme pressure. The Grievers keep danger constant and, through their stings, help WCKD gather data on brain activity and memory recovery. Escaping the Maze is just the final step before the next phase of experiments.
What did the lady mean by that "Phase Two" stuff? - Dr. Ava Paige, the WCKD leader we thought was dead, is not. She explains that the rescue was staged to observe the group’s reactions and survival skills, and that everything so far was just “Phase One” of their trials. The next stage, “Phase Two,” is about to begin, making it clear the kids are still trapped in WCKD’s plans.
I'll be totally real, I do think the other ones are worth a watch. If not the third, than the second because its got a very special actor that you'd love to see.
