Nomadic Ark Air Plus | Install & 6 Month Review

Mispronounced Adventures

In this video we install the Nomadic Ark Air Plus roof fan in my MAN TGE 4x4 campervan, and I share my thoughts after using it for over 6 months, including throughout an Arctic winter.

The MaxxFan has been known as the king of campervan roof fans for years, but I wanted to try out this new up-and-coming challenger, which offers more features at a cheaper price. So, after six months of real-world use, how does it actually compare?

One particularly useful feature is that the Air Plus uses the same mounting flange and hole pattern as the MaxxFan, making it a potential direct upgrade without having to cut another hole in your van.

We also get a little carried away with the installation, using 3D scanning and CNC machining to make a custom mounting adapter for the roof!

Excellent comparison, Alex. Thanks for taking the time to check if the fittings were comparable. Nice of you. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

Another great product review on your channel.
One thing you didn’t comment on is the difference in power draw. The Nomadic only draws 1.9 amps, while the MaxxAir draws 4.5 amps. For me that would be a selling point for Nomadic to save on power

8:30 thanks for trying this👍

Nice. Good to know it’s a direct swap and I like the built in blind.

I also have the Nomadic Air Fan fitted to my MoHo, I got it last year from Hartford Windows, I did have a problem with it a month in when a plastic gear failed on the opening system. I contacted Hartford, discussed the problem and a replacement part was sent out which rectified the problem. THank you Hartford windows.
One minor gripe, the beep the unit makes could do with being a lot more quiet.
Other than that, a nice unit, lots of companies are selling these on eBay etc, I would recommend Hartford Windows as you do get support from them should you have a problem.

I saw this fan was I was in the local camping-store. It was demonstrated next to the MaxxFan (which I had in mind installing). Since than, I opted for the Vechline (that's what it's called here (NL)) and also waited for the second batch where the display-light issue was fixed and the loud beep was fixed. I'm very please with the install and it works like a charm for far less money than the MaxxFan. Now I see there are black interior parts...looks awesome...

Just to add. If you press on remote the light button and plus or minus at the same time it controls the lights kelvin from bright white to warm to mix. Just something I found out on accident and a nice feature. Mk2 version.

Excellent video, bit worrying the screws can be accessed when the vent is shut. Easy way in for a thief!

We have 2 on our van and we are very happy with them. They give a nice breeze in the van when te side windows are closed.
Didn’t know that you could turn the backlight off so I’m very pleased you mentioned it. I was already thinking that I needed to 3D print a cover for it.
So thank you for that 😁

Wish we had the option of the black version last year when we had them installed because the white does stand out very much on our black van.

We put one on our van around 6 months ago, it's been excellent UNTIL we had the massive heatwave the past couple of weeks! Where the airplus would randomly close on itself and when trying to open it it would go so far then close again. We could open it manually with the turn knob without any issues but as soon as we turned the fan on it would close again. Now since the temperature in the UK has dropped again it's back to working fine.. 🤷🏼 absolutely no idea why this is happening but it did.

As always a great vlog. 👍🏼

Looks similar to the Berger Plus Fan

@5:41 I'm always surprised people don't use nibblers 🤷, much less mess. 3D adapter looks great though

Why are you playing golf with your hands at the start of every video 😄

@Alivefrom45 1 month ago

Nice Alex, i like the look of those, think I'll switch to those when our Max fans fail, the only challenge might be is we have two and if the remote controls both at the same time as we normally have one on in and one on out, this may not be possible via the remote i guess with these?

One my second maxxair, only changed is as it was rattling badly, due to it being worn- I thought. No, the second rattle badly also…
However a upgrade to the roof rack and the max air doesn’t rattle at all now…..

Never had an issue with them but I would be going for the Nomadic fan next time…. For sure…
