Can I get into mountain biking for just £50, including the bike, accessories and gear? Thats the question I want to answer in this video, because mountain biking is an expensive sport and the cycling industry would have you believe that a good beginner bike will cost hundreds if not thousands of pounds - which is an enormous amount of money to drop on a sport that you don’t even know if your going to like yet.
Which is why I want to see whats possible with an extremely low budget, can I actually get a good feel, a good experience of what mountain biking is actually like before spending all that money.
Follow along as we take this thrifty challenge from beginner trails to out into the wilderness as we see if budget MTB is a good way to save money or a good way to never try the sport again!

That's what I did, cost me €25 per day at a bike shop near a good trail. This way you get to experience a decent hardtail and can also figure out what size you like.
I finally got the Bucklos forks for my Carrera, 130mm travel air fork for QR wheels and a straight steerer for £100. The weight difference from those godawful SR XC forks is the main standout, they're almost half the weight! There are some downsides though, they feel very stiff unless you set them up with less air than you'd normally have in an air fork, the compression and rebound settings are essentially just on or off, even though both adjusters appear to have over a dozen clicks each, that's pretty much just for show and there's a bit of side to side flex, nothing really scary, more on a par with mid-range brand name forks from the late 90's/early 00's.
I've concluded that these are fine for general daily riding about and trails similar to the one you were on in this vid, but I wouldn't want to take them on anything with bigger jumps etc, fortunately this hardtail is only going to be used as a runaround bike and for pulling a trailer so it won't have a hard life, but when I build up the Boardman FS i'll be investing in a better brand 2nd hand fork.
In this budget i understand limitations.
Even Simple Hardtails need a lot of love when you bike bike for 10-50€
Little better bikes can be obtained under 80 with some luck and i would look for a good 26" hardtail which is way easier to ride in Mountains.
If somebody needs MTB for flat terrain then ATB could work in easy conditions.
