This tsunami taught the whole world to RUN if you ever see the sea draining away.

I remember watching the news coverage on this. I was 21 yrs old and had given birth to my 1st son just 6 months prior. I cried and cried and couldn't stop watching the news about it. My heart was absolutely breaking for all involved. I had just become a mother so now whatever was going on, I was now have a different perception on things. I'll never forget this. Rip to all that lost their lives 🙏🏻 I hope the families of lost ones and the survivors find peace after such a traumatic experience ❤

Mother Nature is reminding the world who's really in charge. We build, we develop, we think we're in control... and then something like this happens. Maybe it's time we start treating this planet with the respect it deserves.

My heart breaks for the people and animals on those islands. Even with some notice, what could many of them realistically do? Not everyone has the means or ability to leave, and the animals certainly don't understand what's happening. The loss, fear, and helplessness they must have experienced is unimaginable. Just absolutely tragic.

22:19 I can't imagine the horror they must have felt. The speed of that black water filled with debris is uncanny. Many families in my area here in Sweden were severely affected that day. So many spent their xmas in Thailand, a friend of mine and his girlfriend stayed at a hotel in Khao Lak. A local screamed for them to jump on the back of his truck when the exited the hotel after breakfast. As he sped off they saw a black wall of water traveling up the street behing them. They made it, but my friend has never been the same again. Survivors guilt and PTSD screwed him up. Poor man.

Someone we knew was on his honeymoon at a resort on the West Indonesia coast when the tsunami hit. He and his wife escaped as he was an experienced sailor and recognised what was happening when the water receded, so managed to get away from the coast to higher ground before the waves hit (it's never just one).

I remember this day very well. I was on my lunch break and was surfing the internet. There was a breaking news of a giant wave hitting India. At that point, that was what  I thought it was going to be - a giant wave.

It was only as the day went by that more and more news came pouring in, and the full scale of the tragedy was only known in the coming days.

Great documentary but the music etc is so deafening and spoiled most of it! Condolences to all who died that awful day and the poor locals who lost everything!

That's the only the 3rd time I heard someone mention they significantly felt the earthquake in Indonesia. Great video, its nice to get other perspectives on the Tsunami, most documentaries use all the same footage and interviews.  Intook my last French class in 1977 in high school and have neen trying to decipher the French commentators w/o the subtitles.  Thank you for a job well done. ✌️🙏

This made me understand the tsunamis and it was very educational. We were at a holiday destination here in South Africa when we saw a wave coming in at a river mouth. The huge wave came in and the people playing on the other side of the river was with their back towards the incoming wave, It was scary and later when we watched the news we realized what this was. We warned them and luckily they were not injured. Imagine South Africa is many miles away.

The people aren't the only victims that have been on my mind. The animals had no warning, no understanding, and in many cases, no chance. Seeing those elephants chained to trees was gut-wrenching. Some were so desperate they ripped themselves free from the chains and trees, likely suffering terrible injuries. But even if they escaped, where could they go? How fast can an elephant outrun a wall of water and destruction? The fear they must have felt is unimaginable. Absolutely heartbreaking.

The tsunami videos of this tragedy were some of the first videos I remember watching right here on YouTube when the site was first making its rounds through the grapevine on launch. I had seen a few home videos uploaded on another site, but they were short and hard to make much of anything out. A couple of months later when YouTube was created (2005), I saw them pop up here like crazy and more people were able to upload and show the world more.

My friend and I sat in our high school computer class and watched what people uploaded because we hadn’t seen anything like it before. Our teacher even sat with us. We were just shocked and stunned by it all because we had heard of the devastation, but mostly only saw what the news curated. It created a whole new fear for me with water seeing those big waves and all that rushing water taking everything in its path.

Couldn’t imagine these poor people being in it and striving to survive. Absolute terror.

I live in Indonesia
Japan and Indonesia are the countries most affected by the earthquake and tsunami because it since 2000 because it is located along the "Ring of Fire".
This disaster is more terrible than you think. Stay alert especially for people living on the beach, because this disaster is completely unpredictable.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.0 in 2018 hit the island of Lombok, where I live and what made it even more terrible was that the earthquake occurred at night, only a few seconds when the earthquake occurred the electricity throughout the island went out immediately I could imagine how strong the 9.3 mag earthquake was, but luckily it happened during the day
May God protect us!

DECEMBER 26th 2004 INDIAN OCEAN MEGAQUAKE WITH 9.3M AND TSUNAMI 🌊 THAT KILLED 227,898 PEOPLE! I WAS IN ANCHORAGE ALASKA VISITING FAMILY DURING CHRISTMAS VACATION! WE WERE UNDER TSUNAMI 🌊 WATCH ALL DAY!

It was so beautiful.
