He really wanted to behave no matter how anxious he was.  He was looking to obey if he could.

My neighbor had a border collie one day her mother was home alone having a heart attack the dog came to my house to get me to help. Smartest dog I ever met.

His body language was borderline, there were a few times I thought he might snap at you. I am so impressed by his self-control, he wanted so badly to be a good boy despite his nerves.

I worked in a hotel, late at night a border collie arrived at the back door baring its teeth, after a few moments, it looked at me like I was a moron, and left.
I later learnt that was "Bounce" and he "smiled for sausages", but nobody had told me, and as a result, I had not saved any. Of course from then on, I did.

I worked for animal controle for several years, there was a border collie in the village that often went missing, after the first two times we knew exactly where to find him!at the local primary school in the playgroud herding children, the owners bought him 8 walking ducks, the problem was solved😂😂😂

I like how you worded the "border collie without a job will invent one," as its important people realize they're not being bad if they act up. People just need to do their research before getting a high energy high intelligence breed.

Oreo: "I wasn't turned away...I just didn't like their resumes."🥴

The lying down thing is also a genetic trait of border collies. If they feel like things are too frantic around them, their instinct is to lie down to calm the stock. In some lines, and with some trainers, the lying down becomes too pronounced to the point where it becomes a hindrance and such dogs are called "clappy."

I knew a border collie that used to ‘herd’ fish.

She lived at the guest house of an Abbey in rural England (I actually forget the county, I was young!) and it had an L-shaped fish pond in the centre.

She had worked out the fish in the pond reacted to her standing over them as well as her shadow falling on them, so entertained herself (and a much younger me) for hours and hours herding them round and round the pond from one corner to the other.

He was scared and anxious but he was looking at you for reassurance. You are so awesome with these challenging dogs. Bless you and your kindness.

Love hearing the ‘good boys’ from Vanessa and the camera man. You can see he perked up with the reassurance.

This was fascinating, you could actually see his mental processing as he realized this wasn't going to kill him.

He did well considering how nervous he was and I think a lot of that was due to your mindset and care.  He's such a handsome and intelligent dude.

Border collies accidentally became one of my favorite breeds. I grew up with them because my dad raised cattle, but I wasn’t ever able to spend much time with them because they were strictly working dogs. Last year, I rescued a 5 month old BC puppy who had been kept in an elevated wire kennel, outside, alone, no toys/enrichment, never able to touch grass, never paid attention to, since he was weaned from his mother. It killed me, so I took him in even though I never would’ve considered this breed otherwise, knowing their high needs. A year and a half later, and I’m more bonded to this dog than any other in my life. He’s my soulmate, and though he has severe anxiety/reactivity issues from not getting socialized or exposed to the world during the most critical time in puppyhood, he is still such a fantastic dog. You almost can’t even believe how smart they are. Now I can’t imagine NOT having one in my life.

I groomed dogs for 20yrs, never ever had a boarder collie bite, anxious yes but aggressive no. You do a fantastic job with your patience. My secret was constant talking, no matter what you are talking about but a voice is calming🇦🇺💗

I saw him practically melt into you with the towel drying. For a dog not used to grooming and being scared as heck, he was a heckin good boy today.

I've never seen such a nervous dog happily accept the dryer before. What a handsome boy!

My dad found a border collie in 1953 right before I was born.  Mom had me and Butch made me his job.  He slept under my bassinet, guarded me crawling on the floor, never left my side when I was out in the yard, kept me from leaving the yard, and tried to eat the mailman when he seemed too interested in me.   Then one day the dog catcher came and tried to take Butch away from me when we were out playing in the lawn.  I was about 3 or 4 years old and raised heck, kicked him in the shins, till my mom came out to make him back off! We were a good team.  He lived to be almost 15 years.  I still miss him. 👩‍🌾

He is exactly why immediate training, socialization, and desensitization are CRUCIAL from puppyhood or ownership!
He did amazing. ❤
