Just adopted a 4 year old husky from local shelter, doing all the research i can.

Keeping a calendar of potty times was very helpful and helped us avoid accidents.

Our rescue was with us about a week (he had been found on the streets and no one knew how long)…the rescue group got him from Kansas to Denver and with a local rescue group.  It took him a while to get used to me.  Maybe a week - still not 100%…but he was happy with our other pup and loved being with him, playing with him, etc.  The rescue woman came over and he jumped onto her lap (he had not done that with me yet).  All went along until we invited the rescue woman to our house for lunch.  Our rescue shook when he saw her and was afraid.  She said he was worried she was going to take him with her and he was happy where he was placed.  That made me so happy.  On the other hand, my husband is tall and a bit noisy and talks loud.  The pup has come to love me in the 3 months - although there are times when he acts skittish with me.  But we just keep giving him time and waiting for him to go up to my husband.  Slowly - very slowly - he is not quite as skittish.  But we aren’t there yet.  We have heard rescues often take to women first, so we give him time.  My poor husband that wanted a new pup - and I kind of didn’t want one (we have an almost 16 yr old dog, same breed).  So it’s ironic that the new pup comes to me and jumps onto the bed to say good night or good morning.  Or even take him out to the backyard.

So we have heard it’s important to give him time and let him come to each of us…and there’s no magic bullet.  And my husband gives him a lot of treats - and he just recently came to get the treat from his hand. But it’s hard to see the pup be afraid of this sweet man.

Thank goodness for the other 2 year old we rehomed who is so secure and happy. They are crazy happy together..

Any suggestions?  Thank you

You're a wonderful person, to share such good information.

This is super informative! Awesome video!

Thanks!

Thank you the need care and consistency to feel safe

Thank you, very informative ❤

A very good organized video explaining steps clearly and logically.

Lovely video! It’s so good that your focus is decreasing the dog’s stress and understanding their body language. A+

I got a 1 year old Spitz from shelter a couple months ago. Not sure the exact breed just that he is slightly smaller than a husky.

Had my 'meet-n-greet' yesterday . . . get the contract to sign and pay the $$ tomorrow.   My one concern was . . the whole time he and his foster parents were at my house he was constantly being fed treats.   I am not a fan of treat motivation training . . so I hope to ween him off of that over time.  IMO . . . you can't even begin to see his personality . . . when all he's thinking is . . . "hmmm . . . how do I get my next treat?:    and . . ."I wonder which pocket the treats are in?"

We just rescued a 6 month old pit mix. She’s very timid, tail always between her legs. She’s very sweet with us and our other dog and cat. She’s good at peeing outside, but poops in the house. We don’t get mad or yell at her. It’s been five days, she’ll get there. Great video, I’ll be watching more.

Thank you this is amazing my new dog is a rescue he’s absolutely so sweet and he is Skittish right now (I got him yesterday and I want him to become more comfortable with my new family and he is 9 months old ❤)

Just adopted a sweet little bull terrier girl I’m doing as much research as I can we bring her home tomorrow she’s a really shy, sweet girl, who’s very alert she seems to do good with other dogs I’m excited and nervous already getting her area set up

Definitely failed on #2. Went to pets store , it wasn't busy. Also introduced him to my grandkids. They visit us frequently so it was a priority to make sure the dog met them sooner rather than later.

Help. I’m on day 15. 😅

I adopted a stray rescue dog. I was told it might be a good idea to extend the 333 rule to a 777 rule since she has had a troubled past. I'm at day 4 and she's just starting to feel a little more comfortable with me and getting used to being on a leash out side.

thank you so much for the guidance c: It's my first time rescuing a dog. She is a mother of 5 puppies and I wasn't sure what to or not do

Do you have a video for rescue dogs that want to bite other people
