Remember when it took Tony Stark in the Hulkbuster just to have a snowballs chance in hell at standing toe to toe against a Hulk, but here come Sam Wilson with a couple of Vibranium wings and no helmet.

Appreciate the Bucky love. I'm still royally pissed that he got shafted in Endgame (by that I mean not getting the shield) and now he's been reduced to a side character with barely any more development.

watching the way the world reacts to Sam Wilson in this movie feels like knowing when someone made a wish to a genie so that everyone magically reveres them. He talks about pressure to measure up a lot but rarely ever struggles to handle the issues that get thrown at him. It’s a ridiculous contradiction that shows the writers seemed more obsessed with Captain America as a title more than a hero’s identity.

honestly I would like him much more if he's still just Falcon with Cap's shield lol

My Grandma told me:
No matter what they tell you in school Purple Drink is magical.

Other than the obvious, like the story and how characters like the Leader and Betty were used very poorly, there are really only two elements about this movie that really pissed me off.

1. The fact that we almost never got to see Red Hulks fire abilities is bullshit. The one thing that differentiated Red Hulk from Green Hulk were his fire abilities and how instead of getting stronger the angrier he got, he got hotter and basically turned into a living furnace. I guarantee if you made Red Hulk a slightly brighter tone of color, no normal person could tell the difference between him and Green Hulk.

2. This is more of a problem for the MCU as a whole, but I HATE how basically any superhero can get vibranium. This completely negates how special things like Caps shield and Black Panthers suit are.

There is NO way Sam should have tanked more than 1 hit from Red Hulk 🤣

Finally someone pointed out how they made Bucky weak in TFATWS. Suddenly super soldier that noone not even Black widow could beat, is beaten by everyone.
Anyway. I think its clear overpowering Sam was done because he has nothing to offer. So they had to overcompensate by a lot of CGI powers.

My two biggest gripes about the movie is:

1. The fight choreography was not good. They felt too overly choreographed and at no point did it feel like Sam was ever in any real danger. Also at no point in the movie until the very end did it feel Sam’s life was at stake.

2. The writers tried too hard to make Sam into Steve Rogers instead of letting him be Sam Wilson. The central theme of the story should’ve been Sam knowing he cant be Steve but he can be the best captain america he can. And what would’ve made this point clear would be allowing Sam to have weaknesses, but no he gets super wakandan tech which apparently scales him on par with the likes or Iron Man.

You should’ve compared the dogfight scene in Iron Man 1 to Cap 4’s.

Tony was able to combat with fighter jets because his suit was established to be insanely durable yet mobile. How? Because it’s the Mark 3 in a series of prototypes, and it takes an entire room of machines just to put on and take off. Filled to the brim with weapons and countermeasures, yet still needing to be maneuvered like a vehicle.

How can Sam take on fighter jets? Because they just so happen to keep aiming for his indestructible shield and wings, and even when flying at supersonic speeds he manages to perfectly aim and ricochet a frisbee.

Let's be honest, this whole story should have been a Hulk movie. Having Ross teaming up with the Leader to try and capture Banner would've made so much more sense, and Betty should've been there at the end to be the one to talk Ross down.

One idea I came up with is have Ross turn into Red Hulk and fight Professor Hulk for a bit, but is vastly outclassing Banner, due to Professor Hulk not being nearly as strong as Savage Hulk. As Hulk is bloodied and beaten, Ross berates him, blaming him for all the people that were negatively affected by Banner not simply turning himself in (which is can be seen as a valid point), even saying that Banner hurt Betty in the process (which is true given we see her injured in the opening of The Incredible Hulk, plus all the times she was put in danger because of Ross clashing with Hulk, so it is a one sided truth). As Ross is wailing on Hulk, suddenly the Hulk grabs Ross's fist and we see that it is much bigger this time, and even though it is burning him, the skin seems to be healing near it. Camera pans, we see that Savage Hulk is back, as he roars, "Leave Banner ALONE!!!" (an interesting twist, as usually it would be "leave Hulk alone", in line with how Hulk and Banner have come to an understanding, almost as though Hulk is protecting Banner) and now the fight is more in Hulk's favor.

This goes on, but with Ross occasionally get hits in, in which he is now focusing on what Hulk (and to an extent Banner) did to Betty, where it has gone from being an official duty turned obsession into being deeply personal, even going as far as to blame Hulk for ruining his and Betty's relationship. Just as the fight is reaching its peak, Betty steps in between them, begging the two most important men in her life to stop. Ross, though not wanting to hurt Betty, still roars at her to get out the way, and then still blames Banner for everything that happened. However, this is only making him angrier, and as would be previously shown earlier in the fight, the madder he is, the more radioactive he gets, and soon enough Betty gets dizzy, vomits, and then collapses. Ross is horrified at this, a moment to reflect that he now has become no better than Hulk: a rampaging monster who has now hurt his own daughter. This would be the impetus to stop the fight, as he detransforms, and cradles Betty in his arms, crying out for help.

This could have been an impactful moment for Ross, as it would be the start of him ending his obsession with Banner, since now he has hurt someone close to him as a Hulk. Again, this is just something I spat out in a few minutes, but if only Marvel could take the time to think about their characters and make great stories again... But alas, I doubt there are any creative people left in Marvel. Or Star Wars. Or Pixar. Or anywhere in Disney.

When a company is new, they take risks to reach out the market. When they get there, they stop

I think Disney was surprised by how well Black Panther did in the theaters and they were hoping to get that same audience back again. Black Panther was a one time thing though. The actual answer is to make interesting individuals who are vulnerable who attempt something and grow. Of any color.

It's been said before, but there's nothing more desperate in movies and games than having random civvies, the old character's best friends or really anyone else and getting THEM to basically tell the audience what to think of a main character. You can tell that the writers are acutely aware of how virtually no one considers Falcon to be Captain America, so they have to make characters in the movie say "No! That's Captain America!"

8:25 Do you one better: Black Panther was knocked out by one punch from Thanos and his vibranium overloaded. Sam taking multiple hits from a Hulk is ridiculous.

Something I made in my review of Brave new world was the CGI outfit/helmet looks very poor. In Iron Man 1, the suit and helmet looks and feels like a metal suit. Not a CGI helmet that vanishes or appears when needed.

I just find it hilarious the entire movie and Falcon and the Winter Soldier, they keep comparing him to Steve and saying how much better Steve was, to create a half ass narrative and character arc for Sam, as if he's the underdog trying to live up an impossible standard, yet MCU gave him such an upgrade, it's clear all his techs made him 100 times stronger than just a super soldier, so it all feels like compensation

It is indeed painful when we wait for the arrival of a special dish that we like to be replaced with another dish.

Good video. I have a few corrections.  At the fight in "Winter Soldier," Bucky draws a CZ Vz. 61 E Skorpion, not an uzi.  Someone does learn to shoot low on Cap.  In CA The Winter Soldier at about 1:49:40, Bucky and Cap fight, Bucky draws a single pistol, and Cap blocks the shots.  At 1:49:52, Bucky spins, pulls a second pistol, and shoot the newly drawn pistol low which Cap wasn't expecting.  The vibranium solution is terrible.  It's a lazy crutch to achieve anything needed in the movie without resorting to magic.  We need a super weapon?  Vibranium.  We need a super health care device?  Vibranium.  We need a super vehicle?  Vibranium.  No other than explanation that "It's vibranium."

You're right.  This movie is terrible.  Cap earned everything that was given to Sam.  Tony needed hulkbuster armor with a satellite of spare parts that was designed by Tony and Bruce.  Sam needs none of it or even needs to plan anything.  I especially loved how "THE LEADER" was so smart in his plan that took decades, but he was discovered by Caller ID.  And don't get me started on this super powered genius who planned and designed everything over decades, but the new "computer whiz" can look at the villain's tech and immediately know how to counteract it.

The thing I will never understand is how still, after all these flops and thousands of video essays saying the same thing, Marvel and their writers STILL can't listen to the critique and go back to making real superhero movies? clearly the fans hate the new movies. So why do they keep making them? Seriously, it isn't rocket science.

Like genuinly I would, and anyone else in these comments would, do a better job as head of the MCU than anyone at marvel. How is that even possible?
