My cousin is a professor in mathematics. The guy literally engineered his entire home to be acoustically optimal with waves and cube forms everywhere on the walls ceilings to move sound and control reverberations using math models. Guy also had to redo his entire home electrical grid and power delivery system because his entire system pulled so much power when turned on. He didn't tell me how much it cost but he told me it was enough to buy another house. His kids tell me their entire house rumbles and shakes when their parents are watching movies and the kids are on the second floor in their bedroom. That level of hobbyist is pretty insane to me but I guess we all need that one thing in our lives that gives us fulfillment and joy.

Level 4 sounds awesome to me. Klipsch+ SVS makes movies and music come to life. My ears are incapable of hearing better.

I’m probably at Level 5 and have no desire to go any further.  The law of diminishing returns becomes REALLY brutal beyond this point.  The sonic improvements are marginal (at best), but the costs are gigantic.

Even at Level 5, you face certain realities.  I suspect that most of the time, people use very well recorded music for demos of speakers in Levels 5-7.  The problem is that much of the music we love is not that well recorded.  And if all systems at these levels do anything, they expose the quality of the recording.  You know how the music is mic’ed, you hear all the things a recording engineer might have not bothered with because he didn’t think anyone would hear it.

High resolution systems can sound clinical, not enjoyable.  The best systems find the right balance between resolution and musicality.  They also present recording flaws in the best way they can, not ruthlessly.  The flaws are there, they are just not thrown in your face allowing you to enjoy more of the music you love.

That balance, IMHO, is achieved by the proper selection of gear to compliment the speaker and that balance is hard to strike.  The goal is not ultimate resolution, but crafting the kind of sound signature that has you wanting to sit for hours listening to your music.  If you manage to get there, no point in going any further.  I achieved that, at least for myself, at Level 5.

Once, I listened to level 6 speakers, with the corresponding components,  at an audio show room. It is still a fond memory.

«You tell your friends, but the dont care»
Why is this so real💀

I bought a pair of the Klipsch RP-8000f to use while I was waiting for a certain, much more expensive speaker to become available. They were some of the hardest speakers I ever had regarding room placement. Took me about a month to get them right, but once I did, I consider them one of my favs ever, particularly at moderate listening levels. Great stuff.

The Klipsch La Scala makes me just sit there and listen.

Level One, Kilburn 3. It makes me smile every time I play music through it.

The stop and listen and goosebumps moment was listening to the Cornwall IV over a Conrad Johnson pre/amp and Lumin player.

Experience has taught me that for good sound, spending whatever your budget will allow, the phono cartridge and speakers will usually yield the best results for the money spent.

What you said towards the end of the video really resonated with me: we don't want to upgrade our speaker systems just because there's something better, but rather from a desire to get closer to the music we're listening to. We want to be there, where and when that music was created and when we first listened to it, and just living and experiencing and submerging ourselves in the music and the emotion it creates within us, with nothing else getting in the way.

Was lucky enough to experience Sonus Faber speaker set from my previous boss. Absolutely amazing

Nothing can beat the live performance on concert ... as long as the band or orchester do it well. And with the right friends this is what you will remember for decades.

At an audio event, I was fortunate enough to have listened to a Cessaro Horn Acoustics Omega setup. I use the word fortunate, despite the fact that it rendered my 600 series B&W paired with two DB4S's phone speaker like. It was unbelievable how powerful it is to spawn a life band/orchestra/singer in front of you and have godlike control in pressing play/pauze and just telling them to play it again. Mind blowing.

The first speaker that blew me away was the Bang & Olufsen Penta Loudspeaker. If I could afford B&O that would be my happiest place. But I am currently at level 4 and am satisfied with my current setup.

What a description you made and the words carefully and beautifully chosen then making the whole process reasonable and understandable, level Four I stood now. 😂

Level 5 after 20+ years with the hobby. The first pair was a MartinLogan speaker in a CD shop back in late 80s.

I just procured a Paradigm Founder 80F set (an upgrade from my Fluance Signature towers). They sound so awesome that I think I am at the level I want to be at

level 5,5 definitely -when new 30 years ago a clear 6er .    I have a set of  TDL RSTL reference standard transmission line speaker with modified Tweeters and special made Speaker Cabinet . My Power Amplifier  is an Nakamichi PA7 . It plays one of the most wonderfull Bass ever - under 20 Hz ( can get under 16 Hz).  I have this system for 31 years now and still love it
