The Timber Company Couldn't Sell Twisted Walnut Logs—One Widow Saw What Everyone Else Missed
With her struggling woodworking shop fading away, Colleen Sayer risks her winter savings on eleven logs marked as worthless.
After a violent storm leaves 63 black walnut trees at Brier Creek Timber, commercial buyers reject the worst twisted trunks as unusable. But Colleen, a veteran cabinet builder still carrying the loss of her husband Emmett, believes the twisted grain is hiding something extraordinary.
While others question her judgment and mill owner Wade Prescott dismisses the wood as scrap, Colleen chooses patience over speed. The walnut will take months to dry, careful hands to shape, and more faith than her shrinking business can comfortably afford.
Barn Light Tales brings heartfelt rural stories about craftsmanship, resilience, forgotten wisdom, and ordinary people who refuse to give up.
