if anyone cares, in wow, if you go to ruins of lordaeron in undercity and have ONLY the ambience volume maxxed, you hear this whole cinematic in whispers. the cheering in the hallway, and the bells in the bell tower

I always loved how on his way back home, Arthas took the time to commission a new spooky set of armor complete with skull adorned leg warmers.

fun fact: Captain Falric and Captain Marwyn are the shadowy figures that went with Arthas

And the blood is still on the floor in Undercity.....

"Your father ruled this land for seventy years, and you've ground it into dust in a matter of days"

In the spanish version of this cutscene, right when Arthas is about to kill his father, not only the music doesn't stop but there's an aditional line of dialogue. Arthas says something along the lines of "Let your eyes close now that mine have opened".

Arthas storyline was the best in Warcraft III

I just realized after 20+ years why this one holds up so well. You can never see the characters talk.

I remember watching this cutscene in awe as a 10 year old

Long live the king.

Will no one talk about the fact that Arthas's two sidekicks apparently slaughtered the entire royal guard while he was having a little moment with his father?

This cinematic is excellent, because it tells it's story perfectly:
It starts with the bells ringing in celebration. Triumphant music sounds as the Prince returns and the people cheer with joy. Then the music changes into a sorrow song, as our hero stops to ponder the simplistic beauty of a single rose petal. Then he discards it and we get a glimpse of a pale, smirking face and we realize that something is wrong here. The omnious music continues as the Prince makes his way to the throne, showing his incredible power by slamming the doors to his father's throne room.
The father greets his son, but he cannot hear it, as the whispers of the demon blade is the only thing he can hear now. With content, the Prince ascends the throne, his shadow dwarfs  his father's as he plunges his dark weapon, killing his father and king, his shadow completely dispels the other. The king's crown falls, bloodied and broken. And our Prince proclaims his New Order. And the bell now tolls with doom...

Masterpiece.

Also of note, the sounds Menethil makes when being stabbed through the chest are in line with how it was described by Christopher Lee when he was working on Two Towers. People don't scream dramatically; they weeze and gasp and that's it. Surprisingly realistic portrayal.

0:44 It's almost as if he grasps the petal expecting to feel something that he used to feel, something important, yet he doesn't feel it, and tosses it away because he's so far gone that he can no longer think of any reason why it would be important.

Bruh when i finished the human campaign i was surprised by this cinematic

Back in the day when Blizzard cared about their fans and their values still meant something. Memories...

those two guards along with arthas is falric and marwyn

1:07 look how strong Arthas was when he opened the doors, the entire kingdom shook nearly

This writing is amazing, so tragic, but also amazing music and visuals to enhance it. Whoever made this is beyond all old world ballads/legends/tragedies. I would read their books on watching paint dry.

It's 2024, and this is still arguably the best cinematic cutscene in video game history.
